To much to say.
This is 3 weeks plus now since I been told I have Diabetes Type 2,and up untill today I have been doing really well,I have been on the low carb and high fats, and riding my bike daily,my blood sugar when starting was 10.2,and through the past weeks I have managed to get it down to 8,7,6,and even had a 5 reading, but I got up this morning with a reading of 6.7,then had a plain Greek yougart, but also had three slices of Choritzo sausage, and when I tested two hours later I was 10.2.I didn't do my bike ride this morning as I felt tired, and after I had that reading,I did something so stupid and ate 6 rich tea biscuits and now my reading is 11.4...Am devastated I ate these rich tea,and am wondering if I have un done all my hard work...Am also shocked my reading of 11 is higher then the original reading from my doctor...I feel so awful now...Any advice please, just to build me up again...How stupid can I get...:bigtears:

Hi rosemary x

Back on your bike so they so, we all have bad days , it is normal, in time you will have bad days but without any negative feelings as it is part of the course....

I keep digestive biscuits and rich tea...such choices :/
But in time with practice there will be more choices .....means you have to learn to bake , some people here make very nice quilt free biscuits ..

Ok biscuits over with, it is still very early says for you, and you have a lot to cope with , go easy on yourself ....you will do fine and when you need support just chat away here always someone to help ....:) Kat

Oh thank you Kat...Today is just been awful, yesterday I felt I had everything under controll,I need to find the link for these goodies I can make,I have made the sugar free jelly which is lovely,I was just so shocked that my levels where higher then when I got my results...I need to cook more variety of foods,I love currys and fish, thank you once again...xox

As Kat said, there are bad days that trip us all up from time to time: things occur - infections, stress and reaching for biscuits when you're down, miscalculation of the carbs you've eaten, poor timing or forgetting your diabetes while life happens .....
We can't beat ourselves up too much, we can just try to make tomorrow a better day ... ;):):)
Well done for doing so well so far, this morning was just a small blip, set your own agenda and carry on regardless.

Don't be so hard on yourself Rosemary. You haven't undone all your hard work, you just slipped off the wagon temporarily. A very small blip, but hopefully the big reading will have shocked you into getting back on the wagon and given you motivation to carry on being good. One tip, if you don't buy the biscuits you won't have any in your cupboard and can't be tempted again.

We all have days like this when the biscuits etc just seem to pop in your mouth! No long term harm done , tomorrow is another day and you won't even think about the biscuits after today .

Currys I love curry I am a veggie though, if it helps 14 months ago my sugar levels were high...18
Now I am a 39% 5.7 in old money which I understand .....now I need that biscuit on some occasions !

I am someone who follows their own diet choices , we are all different , I have lost the 3 stones I needed to over the 14 months on metformin and diet change, mainly for me that was a sugar reduction and some exercising ....(walking)
I am now in a size 10 jeggins ....I can't believe it , and I would never have believed it a year ago.....!

I bake with low sugar ....I adapt my recipes ....also xylitiol
I have used rice flour to make shortbread with xylitiol .....the biscuits were not bad ...
I have to practice more now ......with my baking skills

Curries , I have made a mushroom one for tonight ....:) I do eat a small portion of basmati rice , but that is personal choice ....:)

I remember how I felt when I was diagnosed , it was really devastating, so much to cope with , it does not get much easier but the more you learn the more control you have....never ever feel, guilty ......someone will be able to give you a link I expect to some good baking recepies ....x

Nice to have some raspberries with a bit of cream and a square or two of chocolate 70% plus as a nice treat !
I eat about four boxes of raspberries a week , I buy frozen at the moment ......

Great chatting to you , let us know how you get one ....really nice to meet you ....Kat x

I lost it a bit and had 4 mint viscount biscuits two weeks ago. My levels were high the next day but back to previous level a day later. I have the occasional higher than expected result but they are getting less.

Hi Rosemary
The thing to remember is that the dreaded diabetes is not a logical thing you think you have it sorted and then it turns round and bites you in the nether regions .You are doing realy well so dont worry Just keep testing and reading the forum there are loads of good ideas and recipes on here and also people who understand (been there done that bought the T shirt .There are also some strange threads with jokes and quizzes Perhaps DB makes us all a little strange ;)

Thank you everyone ,you have all lifted me up again...The biscuits are in the bin,I won't ever buy no more,I will bake my own...I just tested again, and from my reading of 11 ,it has gone down to 8.1 in the last two hours...I have just ate two boiled eggs with a little salad, and for dinner I am cooking two cod fillets with cabbage,Brockley and Spinage...I need to find things to snack on,nuts are out of the question as I have no teeth lol...And I will defo be on my bike again tomorrow...And I really want to cook curry from scratch as I know the sauce is out of the question...Thank you all once again...xox

Hi Rosemaryx

It is great to,cook your curry from scratch , a few people on here do, I find it the best way.....I never used jars of paste or sauce , I like mixing and blending ......you can make some lovely things with spices...x

Well to make a basic sauce .....veg or meat ....but have a bit of a google for more information ....

And there are many different ways .....I would use .....as a starting point...

Chilli powder....
Tumeric .....in some recepies
Cumin powder or known as jeera powder
Coriander powder....a good teaspoon of each

Gram masala powder....a little

I use garlic onion and coriander leaves , with a few curry leaves if you can get them , they can be frozen
We have one Asian shop in our nearest city so when I go,I stock ,up on spices ....lasts ages
I use tins of coconut milk as well.....

If you can get a mix made up say from India ...then that is great , just add some chilli powder ...and coconut milk ...happy cooking X

thats it youve blown it! 5 biscuits? what on earth were you thinking girl? ok i have the perfect punishment, no biscuits tommorow!

youve been through alot and are still emotionally going through alot, youve done a absolutely cracking job so far, so give yourself huge pat on the back, as im late to this thread, any damage done by the bikkies is history, and you are already back on track :) without making mistakes we cant appreciate the success, it is not easy, but your doing great!

ps. i wished my worse slip were just 5 biscuits :hungry:

Hi rosemary. As people have already said, diabetes is strange and sometimes there's no rhyme nor reason. Keep low carbing. I have posted up some of my recipes called Scandis recipes. Good one for cod, bean and chorizo stew (we had this tonight) and homemade instant ice-cream which is really yummy. I have a bit of dark choccie every evening with my coffee. The ice cream once or twice a week. Don't worry about the bickies. These things happen. Take care! X

Oh thank you so much you wonderful people...I have calmed down lol,my sugar did go right down to 5.6,this made me happy...Thank you for the recipe Kat,I shall buy these bits tomorrow, and Scandichic,I shall look for your recipes to,and Kat,is coco milk not bad for Diabetics ?.

Oh and I just tested again 2 hours after eating and it was 7.2 ,I had 2 cod fillets, cabbage, colli,Spinage, and for dessert I had some frozen strawberries,Raspberrys, and sugar free jelly with full fat cream...Good night all...Chat in morning...xox

Hi I see from your post you are 3 weeks into this, I am a couple of months into this and I do have days where my blood sugars will not behave. Scandichic is right about there being no rhyme or reason with this, carry on doing what you are doing (minus the biscuits!) , keep on peddling and you will get control of it, don't beat yourself up over any blips its just a learning curve the forum is very supportive, we are all individuals and to some extent you end up being your own guinea pig with how foods affect you.
Good Luck;)
