I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance before Christmas last year.

I have been doing research and saw a holistic healer and so far not much has helped. I decided to try and reverse through diet. I followed a diet for insulin resistance starting last Monday which only has 2 rules, no starch and no sugar.

First few days I felt off and had a headache.

Well now I feel absolutely shocking. For 3 days now my headache is getting worse especially on the left side of my head and around my temples and eyes. Yesterday it was nearly at Migraine pain. I took Neurofen and it helped. I woke at 4am this morning with massive stiffness and pain in my shoulders and neck as well as a migraine. More neurofen helped but for 2 days I have felt extremely lethargic, all I want to do is sleep, my sinuses are playing up which hasn't been a problem for years and I feel absoltely terrible.

I knew there would be withdrawal symptoms etc and I thought that is what I had the few days after I started the diet but I am just getting worse and worse. I would have expected to start feeling better with a clearer head, more energy, not feeling sleepy and headaches subsiding.

Anyone have any ideas as to why I feel worse than I did when I wasn't eating well for Insulin Resistance?

Hiya and welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure I can help with withdrawal symptoms from starch. If you are still experiencing pain after a couple of days on Nurofen I would suggest seeking medical assistance at the earliest convenient moment.

Please go and see your doctor Mins. We cannot advise on medical matters.

Have you been yet? This sounds like it isn't connected, probably you have picked up an infection.

There can be something called "Atkins flu" which is usually temporary, while your body is learning to exist without constant high glucose levels, but nothing as bad as this, my money's on a sinus infection.

Your profile list you as Diabetes Insipidus ? Diet only ?

There is much that is contradictory here ?

As the previous posts suggest, you must seek medical opinion from a Professional - your GP.

Definitely see your doctor mins
Don't be surprised if you get warned off the low carb diet. Some doctors still believe it's dangerous. It isn't
Your problem could be unrelated to insulin resistance.

If Mins has DI then it is totally different from our DM. It has nothing to do with insulin or diet rather the production/use of ADH.

Hi Mins,

Cutting out starch and sugar generally doesn't cause headaches, but headaches are the most common side effect of desmopressin which is the standard treatment for Diabetes Insipidus .
