I Goofed up.......

Apologies, Oldvatr, I must have misread that you had dropped the Glic. I thought you meant all of it.

Computers going belly-up are frustrating. My laptop needed some attention the ther day too. Fortunately, I took it in and had it back the same day. I think it too me longer rebuilding my settings to the way I like them that it took to repair the machine.

Fingers crossed it's not too painful on the wallet for you.
No probs. I hope one day to drop that last vestige of pancreatic stressing sometime soon, but at the moment it is feeding my bgl meter nicely. My laptop is out of intensive care and will be discharged tomorrow on payment of several shekels to the man. Wiped clean so will need major effort to restore normal service, but then this computer I am using has already been undergoing a reincarntatio of similar ilk today. I have lost some test results that is true, but they were not showing anything unusual anyway. Eat carbs, grow fat and spike all over the place as usual.

Normal service and sanity will return to this channel soon.

PS I have purchased this superb contraption for a princely sum, and am about to teach it the secrets of Excel so that I may converse with it in the future. I have also imbibed copious amounts of medicinal spirits which may explain my flippant attitude. I am well anaesthetised .(and try spelling that one when sober!)

Update on my trials and tribulations: I am now using my trusty (?) laptop again, and it has indeed had its bum wiped, and I am still struggling to get some things back into line again, but the nice man in the repair shop did manage to recover some of the user files before he zapped it, I have some but not all of my bookmark library, but no contacts or diary entries. I also lost Excel and Word, but have Open Office instead, so will survive. This new verion of Windows 10 has halved the text size, and I have not been able to find a way of making it visible for my poor old peepers. But I have a magnifying glass so can survive. The other pooter I bought conflagrated itself, and frazzled the cpu chip. However, it is under warranty, and the nice repaiman will be getting a return visit from me next week

This may help.
Hold the control button down and roll the mouse wheel up and down and it may change magnification.

Just had my annual MOT, and Doc is not happy.

My HbA1c was 40, down from 42 last year, and he says he wants me up around 50 because I must be getting hypo's galore at that reading. I thought he understood LC and keto, but he is treating me like an Insulin patient. I have and will push back on this since I am happy with 40.

More worrying is the annual chitchat about cholesterol. This year my TC was raised ( up to 7.7 from 7.3 last year), My HDL was 1.8, my LDL was 4.8, and my Trigs were 2.5 (all in mmol/l) My TC./HDL ratio was 4.3

I have been following an LC diet with added fat, and it is much the same as I had been following from the previous year. I am not sure why the figures have worsened like they have this time, I am not going low enough for much in the way of keto to occur, but I have done in the past. One difference this year is that last year was a non fasting blood test, and this year it was an 18 hour fasting test. I am wondering if my liver put me into fat burning mode for the test, and the LDL responded, but the HDL remained where it was. I am about to repeat the blood letting event next week and propose to do a non fasting test instead just to see. However the Trig value is still atrocious so not sure how to deal with that one.

The repeat was necessary since my other parameters show that I was either in terminal kidney decline, or possibly I was dehydrated. I have stopped my diuretic med since my sodium level was also low so we shall see. I hope it is a case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I wonder if being dehydrated might have affected my cholesterol panel, but can't see why it would. However, the good news is that I am no longer anemic.

Just to cap things off, I have stopped my Gliclazide medication, and my sugar levels since have remained in the ballpark so I was probably correct in surmising it was no longer doing anything for me,

Edit to add: Just consulted Dr Google, and it seems high trigs can be caused by diuretics, steroids and Beta Blocker meds which am taking for the other condition. So now I know. One major cause of trigs is of course a high carbohydrate diet, which is not applicable in my case.

I hope you are able to come to some understanding with your GP. He does seem to be reacting a bit. 40 sounds good to me.

Each year before my annual HBA1c test I wonder about being a bit "better" in the run up for it... but as it is in my birth month, which is also the month of my wedding anniversary and at home son's birthday I never do. It is what it is and is probably a fair reflection of where I am with my control.

My lipids have always been out to lunch, TL north of 9, with the ratios appearing to be fairly random. I used to worry about them. This thread has probably helped me as it seems to suggest that a whole range of factors can influence the lipid profile at the point of measurement. A snap shot, once a year.

Maybe we can fool it by doing the fasting bit as before, but having a couple of glucose tablets about an hour before giving blood to put the glucose up to stop fat burning. Might need to experiment with this to get the timng right wrt liver dump etc, but in principle it may reduce TC and LDL figures but will not affect the HbA1c. Not useful for Trigs though. They are the bad boys in my mind,

As well as @hankjam 's suggestion, you can hold down the Ctrl key, then tap the + or - keys to enlarge or reduce what you see on screen.

Regarding your bookmarks - I feel your pain.

When having a fresh installation of W10 Pro recently, I had a bit of a moment, thinking "Woe is me,....... my bookmarks!", however, then I remembered Google Chrome could save the day. If you log into Chrome, then if this happens again, you bookmarks are there when you log into Google on the fresh install.

I'm certain other browsers can do this too, but you'd have to check the specifics of your chosen too.
Doesn't help you for this time, though.

@Oldvatr
On the subject of kidneys.
I've been bouncing in and out of Stage 3a CKD for years.
No consistency between blood tests.
I tend to drink when I am thirsty but often have fairly dark urine.
There are a number of theories on how much you should drink. Whatever.
What I did last year was to start a couple of days before my test and force myself to drink far more water than I wanted to.
Making sure that my urine was as clear as possible, paler than the recommended pale straw colour.
This improved my eGFR score quite a bit.
I concluded (perhaps wrongly) that my kidneys could clear stuff out of my blood stream but didn't normally bother that much because of my naturally low water intake.

So you could really up your water intake a couple of days prior to your next test but stop drinking a few hours before your test to avoid dancing from foot to foot in the car park.
It depends how fast your kidneys are when you need to stop drinking
Some people have a drink and need to wee a few minutes later. Normally takes a couple of hours or more for fluids to pass through me.

Thanks for this info. My usual colour is clear pale yellow like pilsner beer without the fizz. I never have dark urine. I do not think it is kidneys, since I do not have any symptomsa of CKD at all. But I have had instances in the last year when my kidneys packed up entirely, but this is in direct response to something nasty the docs did to me such as radioactive tracers and contrast enhancers, and finally a general anaesthetic All were temporary, and cleared up without intervention, but I did have to drink for England to drain the swamp. I personally think this is dehydration, which was indicated by my blood counts, and the raised creatinine is probably due to a high protein diet with a bit of red meat in it which I believe does raise that marker. I am not on a Carnivore Diet, so that may not be the reason, but Dr Google does list it as potential hazard. The other thing is I am getting old now, and apparently these markers go everywhichway as we age naturally. LDL rising is actually good for elederly gentlemen approaching their dotage, So I am not hitting the panic button yet, and the No Sleep Blues is caused by a desire to go for a pee at 5am (again a symptom of elderly gentlemen apparently)

Thanks. One of the recovered file folders that was salvaged was an auto backup from Firefox that had at least 90% of the bookmarks, and I have managed to coax the new (Improved , my nether region) Firefox and I can see them all. I never use Chrome, so it would not have any of mine stored. Currently having fun playing with both laptops shouting at each other via the Cloud and using the online Excel facility to do the editing and downloading back to the cloud folder and the two laptops. A laborious manual process, but I have managed to fill in the blanks in my food diary and am up to date again.

I believe dehydration can elevate creatine levels as well.

I know Firefox also stored, as dose Edge, and each of those can import bookmarks from other browsers. I think Edge does it without logging in, so could be worth having a safety net there.

I don't know which version of Office you were using. I was on 2010 (old be very good, in my view), and I too lost that, but my chappie managed to load me a version of Office Pro 2007, which obviously isn't quite the same, but is largely so. I might pick up a 2010 version from eBay. There appear to be plenty around. The Office 2010 files can still be downloaded from Microsoft, so all you need is a legal, functioning key to activate it.

Just a thought.

I have Open Office installed and working, and may switch to it. The free Excel and Word online is good, but uses the Cloud for storage, there is a lot of transferring files needed now I am feeding 2 laptops. Have not found a way of synching these devices. The online Excel no longer has some of the facilities that I had in Excel 2016 version, but the Open Office does, which is an incentive.

i also seem to have lost my spellchecker that even covered me here in the Forum texts. Think it was either Word or Outlook that provided it, and I have lost both.
Edit to update: trying Grammarly but its not as good as what I had But it works.

I don't think I have any symptoms either.
IIRC getting symptoms means that things are well out of kilter.
I suspect that your kidneys just aren't getting flushed through enough for whatever reason.
Just a guess, though.
