@satindoll, sorry to hear about your son in laws treatment... but good that he's using facebook to keep in touch with friends :) and it's cheaper too because of the messaging just like what's app--no need to spend for a text message...That's right @satindoll no sugar makes one grumpy lol xx (remembering my carb flu phase)

Thanks, what makes it worse is that his brother suddenly died a few weeks back, he was a lovely guy and they were very close, hoping his local NHS team will reconsider his meds though I doubt it. just wish I could afford to get them for him, unfortunately he can't afford to go self funded as he was made redundant from his local hospital where he was a SDN for oldies like me, makes no sense does it.

That is a tough situation :( yes it must be frustrating to be made redundant and losing the brother too on top of the depression. Good that you're there to support, may not be by financial means but it still counts that you care for him. Or counseling/behavioral therapy perhaps?

Im new here too as I am also newlly diagnosed and ive learned so much from the forum already just reading other peoples experiences, concerns and triumphs. Seems to me its easy enough Not to open the page, Not to read posts that hold no interest and Not to fill in long introductions(I didnt).forums by their very nature almost allways include comments from members we may disagree with but we are all different and surely all entitled to an opinion? What shouldnt happen is one member making abusive or unkind comments to another. ,.wheres the need, but think ive only seen one such comment on my travels throughout the posts.i think this forum is doing exactly what I assume it was created for....to inform...which it does, otherwise id be happily consuming vast amounts of daily carbs as advised by my DN.if you do also want to play games while youre here, go for it, if you dont........then dont.

It seems to me that you have become the author of the type of threads you abhor. So what advice can you offer us Newbies?I'm frustrated by the wait to see my health professionals and anxious that my interventions may yield no real improvement before I see the DN . I've found a lot of the discussions on here useful and avoid the obvious long established relationship threads.
l read your thread at of curiosity to see what you think might be a more effective format might look like. Perhaps you could make some more suggestions to help the uninitiated to get the most from the site.

I'm not quite sure who your remark was aimed at, if it was me I humbly apologise, for me a bit of banter when I was newly diagnosed would have taken the edge off the pain, I watched so many of my close relatives suffer for many years with the then stigma of being diabetic, I guess I always knew I ran the risk but it was still a shock when I got my dx.
I suggest you read any that take your fancy and that seem to offer you the help/advice you desire.

I have had an enormous amount of help from information on the forum, but also from just banter, which lightens things up for me when I'm tending to get a bit obsessive with the "D" monster. One of the things that I have loved is that the majority of people here understand what it is like to have to deal with diabetes, as empathetic as people can be, they can't truly understand without having experienced it themselves 24/7/365 as we do.

I's good to get a sense of the personality of the poster from their posts (as far as you can from written communication ) and whilst I admit there are some threads I actively avoid, some of the posts I do read can and do go off topic, which isn't always a bad thing and mimics verbal conversations sometimes.

I'm not good at reading the intro posts , perhaps I should do that as I personally found writing an introduction difficult, and lurked for ages before I got the courage to do so. :( I take my hat off to those that did it far earlier in their time on the fora, and to those who consistently reply and make it easier for newcomers to settle in and ask the questions they want answers to, (And there's plenty of people who are brilliant at providing those answers)

Otherwise, there are whole sections on here I have never entered, and doubt I ever will as they have no relevance for me personally or I don't know enough about it to be useful .

It doesn't sound to me as if it was aimed at you, @satindoll :). Anyway, I believe there is a thumping great trophy awarded for your first unintentional upset . Have you got it? Nope? Then it's not you :D

Comment for @ Paul. 1976 . Sorry if you thought I was being rude or huffy. I thought it rather ironic to begin a rant about the casual chat, by then starting a discussion that has little advice to those of us who are -just coming to terms with our diagnosis, and joined because we found it a useful site.
can't quite - fathom what he would like the forum to be.

its not about the help you have got from all the members on this forum. That is all good.
i just thought the 'introduce yourself in AA style' was rather hideous and in poor taste. We are diabetics not alcoholics
