Wow .. Amazing .. I cannot go near. Lentles or chickpeas without my sugar going through the roof .. Also cannot eat rice ... As again my sugar will rise too high .. It just shows how diffrent we all are. Had a lecture from my Drs on cutting out all salt from my diet .. I just wonder how Unwell i will be if I followed their advice .. I am LCHF and need more salt than I did when I was on low fat foods as they are packed with salt !I eat a LOT of lentils, beans, chickpeas, zucchini, peppers, onion, garlic, rice, carrots, tofu and what not. I don't eat anything to do with gluten (i'm celiac) nor anything that comes from an animal (so no dairy, eggs, honey or the like) don't miss any of it overly so - at times when in the bakery i'll miss having fresh bread that is fast and easy to make intend of the involved process i have to do now, but just means I don't fill up on that stuff instead lentils make a large part of the deal for me, I do lentil stew up weekly and a couple times a month I'll do up cabbage stew as well (replace the meat with tofu n lentils instead) healthy and full of what my body needs plus low in sodium (i average 250 mg a day by choice not because i have to be on a low sodium deal intact my doc wont's me to increase my intake, which I find really hard to do) n high in potassium and fiber.
as @Enclave suggested, you may find it better if you keep the fats up, carbs down and protein around normal, the fats replace the lost energy from the carbs and keeps you from being hungry and cold... you will still lose weight.
drink plenty of water and you will need to add some salt to your diet when you cut carbs, have at least a total of a teaspoon of salt/2000mg of sodium a day,
[simple test if you are dizzy lightheaded, headache, have a teaspoon of salt in water, if it quickly goes away it's a salt deficiency. as enclave said without the junk food, you have cut most of your salt]

Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized; fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore be recommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.
Hi everyone I don't mean in anyway to turn this into my post but hears my story. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes march 2013 and have been somewhat succeeding in my battle with this disease. Since starting insulin treatment (8 lantus units morning around 15 novolog units/day) my eyes are just not the same. After about 6 months of going through these vision problems I became depressed and extremely anxious about my appearance. I've been to doctors and most think that it's just my eyes going through the change of my blood sugar going from a high average back down to a normal average. Other doctors think I've developed a neuropathy (specifically cranial mononeuropathy iii). So following these visits I figured I would do some research and figure out a way to get my vision back so I researched treatment and it seemed the only solution is tight control of blood sugar or surgery. I've done eye patching too throughout the last year and it seems to help only temporarily. Also I've tried and control my blood sugar as best I can with an a1c of around 6.0. Though having a very good a1c i have felt that I have had numerous highs and lows (blood sugars). What can I do about this neuropathy? I've been trying so hard to get my vision back since being diagnosed but it's been so hard and it's ruining every aspect of my life last year I dropped out of school and quit my job because I just can't focus on any given task and I feel as if I don't want to do anything until I feel myself again. With diabetes is it more about what you eat or how you manage your blood sugars? I've been stabilized for nearly half a year. What am I doing wrong? I'm also 19 years old and weight 175lbs. Any input would be great. Thank you so much!!
Sincerely,
Justin
no, I was adding to your postI defer to Jack
Also my blood sugar gets high overnight when I forget to treat it but I've been pretty good at keeping those nights to a minimum compared to last yearThanks for your replies. And my blood sugar fluctuates from around 50-220 I play basketball often and it's hard to keep it under control and balance my exercise with the amount of novolog I take. Normally I eat eggs for breakfast with maybe two hotdogs then for lunch usually baked chicken nuggets and French fries or maybe chicken nuggets or a salad and for dinner baked chicken with a decent amount of white rice an a vegetable. I'm very active so I feel the things I eat shouldn't be affecting my vision in this way and I've been to several eye doctors this year and they say my eyes are fine they are just going through the change of being in the 200 range down to the 120-150 range but after doing some research I think I have cranial mononeuropathy iii and After talking to my diabetes doctor he thinks that I have it as well
And I forgot to add that I'm actually trying to put some more weight on in muscle I'm 6,0 and rather slender I just figured id add the weight if that would help somehowWe probably need further information but of most interest would be your diet ... what do you eat? How far do those BS fluctuate?
Is everyone satisfied with your weight? I sincerely hope you get those issues sorted and there'll be people far more qualified than I to offer some advice. Best of luck
Mike

Ok that sounds good I will certainly do that. What are some things to replace the carbs because I'm constantly playing basketball and before being diagnosed carbs were and still are the only food that really fills me throughout the dayNow that we know that, I'd suggest you consider a review of your diet.
White rice, breads, breaded chicken (?) and hotdogs (you're from the States I take it?) and potatoes (that is french fries) are (at least for MANY people with T2) an absolute "no no".
You need to cut out the carbs big time and they are major offenders ...

Thank you for your post. I definitely think cutting back on carbs will be the right solution it's just so hard for me because before being diagnosed in March 2013 I would play a lot of basketball and then eat carbs but now as a diabetic I have to find a replacement food that will keep me from being hungry all day throughout my physical activity@GuidoGuy202
Cutting back on carbs should help you manage your diabetes better but as a t1 on insulin you have to be careful to do this gradually reducing your insulin as you go along otherwise you run the risk of hypoglycaemic attacks. There are a number of t1's on this forum who eat low carb so I am sure that one will be along soon to advise further. I am a t2 on oral meds only so do not have the relevant experience
All the best
