I just had my second HBA1C three months after diagnosis and I've reversed my diabetes

I can't believe that I have gone from 58 to 38 in three month. Nurse says if I get below 31 then I'll come off their diabetic list altogether.

I thank each and every one of you guys for all your support, advice and ìn formation. You've literally given me my life back.

Excellent result @supergirthuk in such a short time! Well done, and keep up the good work, but personally I would like to stay on the diabetic register to get the regular HbA1c tests.
 
Well done @supergirthuk maybe you can share with us how you did it? Inspiring stories are always good for sharing - are you on LCHF?

Sorry for the brevity of this as I've got a hospital appointment at half ten but VLCHF and walking. Activity tracker pushing me to more steps each day too. 1700 cals. 75% Fat 20%Protein 5% Carb. Gone from 0 exercise to 11800 steps a day. Off to walk to the hospital so will give more details later and answer what questions I can.

That's amazing so well done. As for coming off the register if you do there will be no more HbA1c tests or retinal scans which really we need to keep on having. We will always be diabetics however good our levels are until they come up with a cure
 
Hi Well done supergirthuk, I must agree also that when I do my next 3 month blood tests if I too come right down to be able to come off the register, I would rather stay on it a the others have said, we will always be diabetic and I would rather have the continuing blood tests / eye tests /and feet checks. Wouldn't you?
 
Great news, supergirthuk, and well done you. I had my own 3-month follow-up appointment a couple of weeks ago (diagnosed pre-D in late Jan 2016 and started the 8-week blood sugar diet after reading Michael Mosley's book), and results were as follows:
  • Weight - 9st 4 lbs (130 lbs) as opposed to 10st 13 lbs (153 lbs) in Jan
  • HbA1C - 41 (down from 44)
  • Total Cholesterol (TC) - 5.2 (up from 5.1)
  • LDL cholesterol - 3.63 (down by 0.6)
  • HDL cholesterol - 1.26 (up by 0.6)
  • TC:HDL ratio - 4.22 (down from 5.26)
  • TG - 0.94 (down from 1.61)
GP was staggered by the extent and speed of the changes and asked me how I'd done it, so I told him. He seemed a little disappointed with the answer because it was at variance with the 'low-fat, plenty of carbs' mythology that currently masquerades as nutrition advice via the NHS, so I started talking about some key research studies (he was unaware of all of them). He then told me that if my total cholesterol remained 'high' on the next test (ie above 5 mmol) he would 'have to' prescribe statins - this despite the fact that my score of 5.2 would count as 'optimal' in most of Europe, Canada and Australia (he didn't know this, either). I told him that he could save his prescription paper because I wouldn't be taking statins at any cost. We then had a brief, but interesting discussion about the (very negative) side-effects of statins. The consultation ended with him telling me just to keep doing what I'd been doing, and that he'd start to read more widely on the topics we'd discussed. GPs - dontcha just love 'em..?

Thanks for all the comments and help because without the support of the people on this forum I simply would not have done this.

The Nurse said they would carry on testing annually even if I was to come off the diabetics list so I'm good with that. So glad that the docs won't be trying to push meds at me now but the next thing will be them trying to get my cholesterol down. I did a statin for a few weeks and my CK level rocketed so they took me off it and I'm not going back there.

There's plenty I can do to lower the cholesterol levels because I haven't hugely been monitoring my saturates intake and I could introduce a bit more omega 3 into my diet cos I've not really had much at all. I'll up my nuts (Brazil, Walnuts and almonds) with a view to replacing some of the Extra Thick Double Cream I've been eating to even up my percentages.

I've realised that the calories that my exercise adds on to my calories available in Myfitnesspaĺ is not an aim but a limit so I've started to lose weight again now I'm sticking closer to the initial 1700 cals a day I limited myself too.

Incidentally, I have limited my daily carbs to 20-30g a day most days and it's worked so far. It hasn't been too bad for me as I'm really strict with myself and don't have an awful lot of pressure or temptation to distract me at the mo.

Well done supergirthuk, I did the same myself! I was diagnosed myself in 2011 and it was only a chance remark by my doctor earlier this year that led me to question it. He said every hba1c I'd had in 5yrs (10 of them) showed me as not even prediabetic, let alone type 2. When I was diagnosed I lost 3 stone+ and went berserk on a pushbike then lived as if I was type 2. I felt as if a weight had been lifted when I discovered I was OK. Well done once again!!

There was one study I saw recently where those with lower cholesterol rates (on a vegetable oil diet) had an increased chance of death.
 
Further to my earlier post congratulating supergirth.co.uk,, I notice some misinformed individuals saying "we will always be diabetics" In my case I was diagnosed & labelled "type 2 diabetic" using the blunt instrument test of fasting bloods criteria having been breached twice. I immediately set about a diet and exercise routine for a couple of years that pulled me back in to "normality" then spent a further 3 years ignoring diabetes diets and being a lazy fat slob albeit one who ate a diabetes friendly diet. During those first 2 years and the following 3 I had a total of 10 Hba1C tests that indicated no sign of diabetes at all. I'm not controlling it, through diet or exercise, I am not diabetic, despite having being initially diagnosed as such because I was on the brink of it. Reversal, particularly in the earliest stages is possible. I'm living proof
