Seem to be drifting into a little hobby of cheese-making - so far have made Halloumi, paneer and ricotta. Am seriously considering some of that ricotta and some strawberries and blueberries for lunch today.

Anyone else make cheese?

My husband gave me a cheese making kit for my Christmas..... what he really meant was he wanted one! So he's made two lots of something or other, the first batch of whatever it was was good, though far too much. The second batch of something else was a disaster! I should really have paid more attention to what it was he did!

Not yet but one of my 2016 goals
Hi Penfold, I love cheese so this is just great, especially what with the prices of Halloumi and Ricotta in the supermarkets - low carb too, so you know what is going into the cheese. I recommend you give it a go, will report back on the Ricotta and Strawberries later - just in time for Wimbledon fortnight.

Hi Beryl,

I use this site www.littlegreencheese.com - it's really useful and has videos to show us what to do!

Sounds good my wife is thinking of making cheese. She can turn a tub of cream into a pat of butter in around twenty minutes and I make yoghurt occasionally plus we keep chickens and grow lots of greens.

Sounds wonderful. I must look up the cream to butter thing :)

Yes, I have made ricotta and I have a recipe for paneer which I haven't yet tried. It's surprisingly easy and wonderful to know there are no 'hidden' ingredients.

Wow, that's way more adventurous than me making yoghurt cheese or dopping a qyarter cup of lemon juice into the half gallon of milk and stirring it on low until separation time

So, what's involved in the Haloomi and when you finish it, does it still have the stringing melting consistensy going on when you heat it?

Hi Galja,

I use a very good website which I found on youtube. Let me get you the link.

Here it is...

When I am making the cheese I place the pan on top of another pan of boiling water so the heat is not direct and the cheese doesn't get burned. Make sure the pans are nice and steady though.

Let me know how its going.
