I need a rant

Scandi, I think you are alluding to preferring a lipid profile as well as an HbA1c test, and I would be the same. My cholesterol appeared elevated at diagnosis, and I was comforted it had significantly reduced when I had my follow up in early February.

Why not request the additional test, then you will be in a position to discuss the meds you are taking in toto rather than just the Metformin. As an evangelical non-med person, I would want to be rid of everything. But that's just me.

Additionally, I would use the fasting tests as an opportunity to compare your meter with the score returned by the lab. Prick finger as blood is being drawn. It's not a perfect comparison, but a useful gauge. I neglected to do this last time, but will next.

(If only an HbA1c, this calibration exercise would have limited value, unless they do a blood glucose score at the same time.)

The problem is they have very little money and too many patients. It's almost impossible to get a same day appointment even if it's an emergency. They have been fine up until the point whee I was diagnosed with diabetes and then it's all gone pear shaped. There treatment or not of diabetes is appalling to the point where they have upset the local hospital. The most serious incident to date was the little boy who they sent home with the instruction to take cal pol even though mum had said that she was worried about diabetes as T1 runs in family. Doc dismissed it without pee or finger prick test. Kid submitted with reading of 89 which went up to 94. Part of the problem is that the receptionist s have been told to give people telephone appointments and reuse to give appointments even when the paramedic said I needed one ASAP after having first hypo. If you then dare to follow a low carb diet then their response is downright rude.
