I keep getting up about 3/4 times a night to go for a wee  Also wee quite a bit throughout the day. I've just started doing my fasting BG levels every morning over the past few days, since going onto sitagliptin.
I'm T2 and my fasting BG for past few days have been 7.8 and my recent Hb1Ac was 7.6. Is this an indication my sugar levels are too high?
I have started a low carb diet yesterday and cut out most of those naughty treats

I have had one packet of low fat crisps today  Walkers Baked 18 gms of carb of which 1.8gms sugar.
I have cut out all those choc biccies and bars of chocolate. I have to start somewhere and only just found the low carb links on the forum.

How long have you been diabetic? reason i ask is it takes a while to get the meds right, 7.6 is not too bad but with the Januvia you'll be able to sustain a better BG level.

I have been diabetic for two years, only started Januvia a few days ago. Just fed up getting up so many times a night, no wonder I feel tired when I get up.
My BG have actually gone up since being diagnosed and despite being on Metformin. Hence my GP prescribing Januvia for me. My average Hb1Ac is between 6-7.1 over last 2 years.

Well done cocacola for cutting out the sugary bits, as you say you have to start somewhere. 8)

However the carbohydrate content is the thing you really need to watch out for as carbohydrate converts 100% to glucose. This means that you may have given up all sorts of things but can then scupper yourself completely with the 'treat' with which you reward yourself.

Do you self test?

Only started testing a few days ago when the GP rang with my latest Hb1Ac test results, which was 7.6 up from my previous 7.0, well it was Christmas  Now on metformin and sitagliptin.
So I have now decided to start testing every day, waiting on more test strips to arrive before I start testing before/after meals.
I don't hold out much hope of getting test strips on prescription, as my GP hadn't even heard of Byetta

Hello again cocacola :)

Suggest you might benefit from having a Collins gem Carb Counter (£3.99) or similar book to give you the low done on a wide range of foods so that you can use the knowledge to make better choices.

As regards the testing strips if you don’t ask……

hi Chris,
all sounds quite familiar I'm afraid - the big difference in my levels only came when I started seriously low carbing last May and the difference has been astonishing. Stick to it. I'm on Metformin, which certainly helps, but the dietary changes have been the important ones for me. (And yes, I still have the odd packet of crisps once in a while...)
