I Really Need Help. I'm Now Confused

I forgot to add that the nurse also wanted to possibly give me a drug like Orlistat, in the future, that helps you lose weight. The problem with this is that if you eat fat, you end up with terrible diarrhea among other problems.

Just to show I'm not just fish and veg, tonight's dinner was chicken Caesar salad followed by fillet steak au poivre with green beans, carrots and tomato, finishing with an Americano with cream. BG 6.3 an hour before, 8.0 just now at 2 hours since starting to eat.

There were sautéed potatoes on the plate, which two weeks ago I would have wolfed down, but I didn't feel any craving for them. Like you, I thought I would miss having spuds, rice etc but after about 10 days of this I can just ignore them.

My suprise pudding is diabetic friendly
Put a piece of very dark choc in a small dish heat up some berries I use raspberries but strawberries work too pour the heated berries over the choc and let it melt then top with double cream Yum
CAROL
I love this recepie carol

Sounds lovely sanguine. I'll admit that I'm dreading not eating potatoes, more than anything else, although I love rice and pasta too. It's now dawning on me how much I need to alter and I'm nervous. Your words of encouragement do help. I like a challenge and this is a biggy for all of us who find we're diabetic. If I can focus on the good instead of what I crave, it should help tremendously. Thank you.

You're welcome :). If you experience the same as me, a week or so in and the cravings just disappear.

I'm back home now and another low carb and very tasty tapas-type lunch comprised some Spanish chorizo, smoked mackerel pate, some houmous and a couple of brazil nuts. I treated myself to a small slice of wholemeal bread with lots of butter, although I didn't have to have it! Not a great quantity of anything, and I'm now sufficiently full.

I don't know if you're within reach of a Waitrose, or if Charlie Bigham's have other outlets (EDIT - see http://www.bighams.com/) , but I've found these in ours (all for two people):

Handy if you're in a rush and need a ready meal for two.

Hi Aldebaran! I started my journey on 28th of Jan. I was 16st 1lb. My sugars were 13.1 fasting. My bs is around 6-7 sometimes 7.5. Rarely above 8. I take a statin every evening. I started on 3 metformin but now am down to 1 and I take ramapril for my blood pressure. I now weigh 14 stone 5lbs. My lifelines have been this forum and my family. My doc has been as much use as a chocolate fire guard. I found this site accidentally, in a total panic. What could I eat. Totto, took me under her wing and referred me to www.dietdoctor.com . The rationale made sense and I went from there. I didn't get an upset tummy on the metformin but did get very dizzy which scared me. I soon learnt that I needed to drink loads and loads of water. My nurse refused me a meter so I bought my own. They don't like it when you stick to your guns but if the diet works and your bs comes down and you lose weight then that's great. Got to go but will come back in 5 and tell you what I eat!

Ok, breakfast is egg heavy. Either omelette or 1 to 2 sausages and a poached egg (sometimes with mushrooms a a fried tomato). Sometimes I have bacon or smoked mackerel or kippers. At first I thought this was boring but then I though about it. You always have toast or the same bowl of cornflakes, don't you? Lunch I struggle with. Sometimes left overs. Salad. Tapas style - pepparami are really low carb. Pieces of cheese. Veggies and dips. I overdid it with carrot sticks and blue cheese dip. Having a break for a while. Have posted up some of my recipes on the thread Scandis recipes. My variety is in the evenings. I eat really well. There is also a recipe for instant ice-cream which is on my thread. Unfortunately you have to eat it when you make it as it doesn't freeze. :D. Hope this helps?
