I think I just injected wrong? :/

Morning all,

I was diagnosed last Friday, Type 2 Insulin controlled and I think I just injected wrong, maybe?

I was just shown to basically "jab and push the pen" if that makes sense but when I've done it this morning a raised white bump has come up under my skin, whereas this hasn't happened in the last couple of times I have done it.

Have I done something wrong?

Many thanks!

Basically, the insulin hasn't gone deep enough - it's gone just under the skin instead of into your fatty tissue.

The insulin will be absorbed eventually and the lump will disappear. To avoid this happening again , try to "pinch an inch" of skin between your thumb and index finger before injecting.

What insulin was it and where was the area? Also (I'm not being rude here) if you're overweight - you may find that you need slightly longer needles to ensure the insulin goes deep enough.

Thank you, I though I had something wrong! I will try pinching tomorrow and if it happens again I will ask for longer needles.... not massively over weight, but I do have the old tummy!!

Thanks for replying so quickly :)

No problem:) Please do let us know if your revised technique stops this happening. I wish you well.

You can inject into your butt apparantly. Just make sure not to twist the pen as this can break the needle off

Oh lord, I'm still getting my head round doing it in my stomach....the thought of running round the house half naked with a needle sticking out my backside is not appealing haha! Thanks for the tip though :D

You'll get used to injecting. Soon, you'll be able to do it with your eyes closed, while upside down singing "Walking in the air" :D

I have read or seen that you can inject without pinching some flesh ..... I don't pinch mine and I'm slim.
