I think i'm diabetic!

Hi i'm 21 years old (female) & i'm really scared i think i'm diabetic. I've been experiencing symptoms for a while but just put it down other things. I'm constantly tired. If i don't eat something literally every hour i feel like i'm going to pass out, i get shaky, sweaty/clammy & then around 20 minutes after eating i feel a lot better! I'm wheelchair bound due to a muscle wasting disease and rely on my mum to do everything for me. Today my mum was talking to her friend who is diabetic & she has one of those things that test your blood sugar levels, she came and tested mine & it was 6.1 (two and a half hours after eating). Do you think i have it? I'm going to tell my GP about it on monday. Until Monday have you got any tips on how i can keep it under control because when it happens i feel terrible!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lilreddevil, welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so rotten, I think its best you get the Doctor to advise you in the first instance, I would hate to be giving you the wrong advice. We're all here from you when you know what you are up against!

Hey Lilreddevil,

Its difficult to draw a conclusion from one 2 1/2 hour post meal blood glucose reading.. 6.1 mmol/l would sit towards the top of the 'normal' range for a 'normal' meal.. Your best bet is to see your doctor they can carry out a number of tests to try and diagnose what's wrong.
