do you have HbA1c non diabetic range ini 2 years? just with diet and walking, great i must learn from youWhen diagnosed almost 3 years ago I found information about the Newcastle diet but my GP wouldn't support me in trying this so I went for eating 500 cals less than my body was burning. So probably about 1000 cals a day but with real food. This worked for me. How about looking at the 800 calorie diet? Will your doctor support you in losing weight? I also used a meter and cut out the carbs that my body couldn't cope with. It did take me longer than 8 weeks probably several months but I have managed to have normal HbA1c's for the last 2 years. Whatever you do will be hard work but hopefully worth it in the long run.
thank mbaker i reading now .You might want to consider a "real food equivalent" of the ND https://thebloodsugardiet.com. If you did the programme you would have support and the program has been endorsed by Professor Roy Taylor who invented the ND diet (he a Dr Mosley are buddies). If I were in your position and were doing a calorie restricted diet presumably to reverse diabetes I would give this consideration, as the author did have diabetes also.
yah, it is a conventional dietId be amused to hear about his proven diet

Yes i is great. do you use low carb or lo cal diet, i think you chose lo cal diet right? My plan was 3 fold
Diet - I used a meter testing before and 2 hours after food. From this I worked out what my body could cope with. I still test but not every meal.
Weight loss - I wasn't over weight but very close. I counted calories (as well as carbs) and kept my calories down. I lost about 15kg (2 and a half stone) in about 4/5 months which was too much for me so had to put some weight back on. I am now trying to keep my weight stable. It's very easy to put on a few pounds.
Walking - I have increased my walking from very little to now about 8 to 10 miles most days. As long as I do this amount of walking I can eat about 2000 cals a day.
Best wishes for whatever you decide to do.

right, you are right, i think we must get best method to ourself, thanks hitsmeA bit of both. When trying to lose weight I counted calories but also used a meter to check what foods I could tolerate. I had to cut out breakfast cereals as they shot up my blood sugars. So I did limit carbs but not very low carbs, Some on this site keep their carbs at below 20g a day and that works for them. I think you need to find what you are comfortable with and go with it. If something doesn't work then you can always try something else.
I did Newcastle without asking my GP. Having said that if I had been on metformin or another diabetic drug I would have thought it wise to check with the GP or at least TELL him what I was doing in case the drugs needed to be adjusted. Newcastle is a very drastic diet so if you are frail that could also mean you should ask your GP if its safe for you. I found it hard but it worked for me.I wan to do Newcastle diet soon, but my Doctor not support it. He recommended to do "proven" diet. Can i start it without my doctor support ? thanks before

Newcastle is a "proven" diet. He should have heard of it. It has been in the lay and scientific press for years and especially last December when the DIRECT study results were published.I wan to do Newcastle diet soon, but my Doctor not support it. This is the first time on Forum. In the last 10 years I have lost 5 stone twice on VLC diets. They work for me and I just wanted support. I asked for level 3 support and was put through 8 weeks of classes to teach me how to eat healthy. I know all that and just have a problem with food. Met the consultant and said I did not want an operation but could I have support with the Newcastle diet. After 10 minutes consultation she discharged me from her “specialist care” and said have ready meals if I don’t have time to cook. I thought they were full of salt and sugar. She really missed the point and would have preferred me to have risky surgery which I did not want. With VLC diets at least you have all the nutrients. I felt very alone but have just started Newcastle Diet today. I will keep close to my local nurse. She understands more than a highly paid specialist. So glad to read of others. I have managed a day and so far no milk in coffee. Doing Exante and veg.I wan to do Newcastle diet soon, but my Doctor not support it. He recommended to do "proven" diet. Can i start it without my doctor support ? thanks before
