Hello looking for advice really, I had insulin dependent gestational diabetes in my pregnancies which normally came on very early but after each baby it has gone away and give the all clear at my 6 week GTT I had my youngest baby 10 months ago my endocrinologist told me to keep an eye on my fasting levels so I have been doing it every now and then and this week my fasting levels are 6.3 the last 2 mornings, which up to this I would get 4 max 5.8.... I am planning on making an appointment with my doctor and get a GTT and A1C if they will do one.

I am breastfeeding which I always thought lowers your blood sugars? so I am worried if I was not feeding my sugars would be higher maybe!!!

I am going to ww to shift extra weight I have put on, I lost 10% but need to do more but thinking now I need to change how I am eating drastically really do not want to speed up the onset of type 1 but feel it is catching up with me now my eldest is 13 now and I had GD on him diet controlled though.

is 6.3 a sign I am pre diabetic is your monitor higher than a blood test so making me ok

Thanks in advance for any advice or insight

I should take your fasting BG several times in one day, and see how much it varies over time. Then do it again on another day. You might be surprised by the results.

I have noticed that my surgery seems to treat my fasting BG as some sort of immovable, absolute diagnostic tool. Like some sort of magic number. However a little home experimentation has proved this to be absolute nonsense (in my case),

My fasting BG will vary from 5.8 on waking, up to 8.5 just before breakfast. Add in factors like lack of sleep, what I ate and exercised the day before, and what time I eat that breakfast... it turns out that my fasting BG is highly variable and useless for the purpose of diagnosing diabetes!

But they still want to treat it like an absolute...

So yes, an OGTT or an HbA1c will be more use - unless you low carb, which messes the results up a bit too...

Good luck with your appointment, hopefully you will be clear. I had gd 16yrs ago and i was diagnosed type 2, four years ago although i did not attend at my gp for ten years so i wouldnt know how long i have been diabetic for. I was never informed after delivery to get yearly blood test i hope you are and maybe you could protect youself from risk with a good diet and exercise all the best.

Well my doctor took some blood to send away for a HbA1c and then see what that say's and go from there for now I am working on changing my diet and keeping good control over my blood sugars
.

Good that you knew the signs and should get a diagnosis quickly.

I'm pleased for you - not that you've got diabetes, but that you will get a quick diagnosis.
