If you are described as being on the borderline for diabetes, does that mean you have it? As my nan has been described this way, but doesn't take any medication? :-/

Hi. The offical position given by nearly all the professionals is that you are either 'pre-diabetic', 'diabetic' or 'not a diabetic'. As an engineer I believe this to be nonsense as in practice there is a complete spectrum of sugar control in the body from absolutely no problem through to full-blown Type 1 diabetes. A glucose tolerance test and an Hba1c blood test after 3 months can give some indication as to where you are on the spectrum. The NICE diabetes guidelines on the NHS diabetes website give an indication of the treatment suggested, if any, when you have those readings and the guidelines are quite sensible. So, your Nan really needs to know the results of any tests she has had and discuss those with the GP. Often for people who have marginal blood sugar control moving to a sensible low-carb diet will avoid the need for any medication at least for quite a while.
