I keep posting here but I can't stop! I love the community too much!
So my latest question is has anyone been told something nasty about their illness?
*Incoming rant*
I had a girl, who I hadn't of spoken to in over a year, message me telling me my diabetes wasn't a big deal, type 1 was common and that half her family had the disease. She went on to say it wasn't life-threatening, life-changing, I wasn't dying and that it was an offense to the terminally ill.
I'm sorry but, yes, I might not be dying or have something like cancer, but injecting at least 7 times a day to keep me alive is a big deal to me. You might not have the illness but it doesn't give you the right to be ignorant and excuse my language, a ********.
Anyway, the conversation carried on when I said that I needed to take insulin everyday to keep me alive basically. She replied, "I and everyone else need food and water to survive, does that mean I'm ill too?"
It really frustrates me when someone with no understanding of the illness (even though half her family have type-1, so surely she should know what it's like) has the ignorance and cheek to say that my illness is not life-changing or life-threatening. Tell me it's not?? For 15 years, I haven't had to worry about my blood glucose levels, I haven't had to inject AT ALL, and then suddenly I'm told I need to inject for the rest of my life?
And this was all because of a picture I posted on snapchat saying, "what would you do if one day you were told you had a life-threatening disease which was incurable?"
Has anyone else had nasty remarks thrown at them just because the idiot is uneducated and unaware of the illness?!
