ILLNESS AND MDI'S

thanks for the responses, apologies if i'm being dim but is it only under certain circumstances one should test ketones e.g. illness? or is it something i ought to be doing from time to time anyway?

Does anyone know how long after feeling better do sugar levels return to normal?

My daughter is feeling fine today but her levels are still quite high so still following the 2 hourly test and inject regime and wondering if her body is still fighting infection or if the initial basal/bolus doses worked out were way out?
Just my luck for her to be ill the day after we changed over!

What do you call high?
If you are seeing figures around the 14 mark then you should probably be keeping an eye out for ketones there.

My meter tells me to check ketones at about 17 or above. But I would only bother to do so if I had more than one consecutive reading that was up at that level. I'd say no massive need to check ketones in normal circs unless you want to set your mind at rest.
Everyone's different though - me, I seem to be fairly ketone-less even when ill. I know of people who develop ketones very quickly once they are feeling unwell, though, and for them a more regular test might be of use.
