Can you please help me? I have been poorly for a few days with e coli uti. I am not eating at all as I feel so sick.
How can I regulate my BG levels? I am on metformin. Thank you and happy Monday to you all.

Hi @Debbie gott Sorry you're unwell.

What are your blood sugar levels like? Illness can cause higher than usual blood sugars - that's very common. What to do about that depends on your treatment, but keeping hydrated is important.

I'm not on Metformin but many Type 2s are, so I hope some will be along to give their experiences. However, if you're in any doubt whatsoever or have any concerns, you could give your surgery a ring and ask their advice.

Thank you for your advice. It's been between 4.2 and 17.4

That's quite changeable then. I don't know what your blood sugar range is normally like, but certainly I can understand your concerns. It's not fun when you're ill and have diabetes too. I'm on insulin so it's slightly different for me, but I test my blood sugar very frequently when I'm ill. I do regular tests and then test any time I feel funny during the illness.

If your blood sugars keep going high, it would be worth speaking to your GP just to check what's best to do.

I've found this online and it does specifically mention getting advice if you're ill and on Metformin. Don't be afraid of bothering the doctor. 17.4 is high, so a call would be perfectly reasonable so that you can get some advice. Here's the link:
