Illness or GD making insulin requirement rise?

Hi

Im 27 weeks pregnant and have shingles at the moment. Ive noticed this last week/10 days my lunch and dinner insulin has needed to go up. I was getting 6.2 post dinner on 14 units, but now i get 7.2 on 20! My breakfast (no carb) and overnight insulin requirement remains the same.

I dont know if this rise is because of the GD getting worse (which I know it will) or is it because Im ill. I want to be on the look out for reducing the insulin once Im better if its the shingles.

Which do you think is more likely?

Thanks

Hi Cranberry,

I guess it's hard to know if it's the pregnancy or being unwell making your blood sugars higher, I find the only way to deal with ever changing levels and requirements is test test test and be confident in tweaking, be prepared to snack in case you over inject. It's frustrating when your routine goes out of the window isn't it - I hope you get on OK.
