to this low-carb business......slowly but surely. Did a little experiment today. Had a barbie as the weather was so good. Normally I'd do jacket potatoes, or pasta or rice salad to accompany our barbequed food but although I ate plentifully, I had what I guess would be a "low-carb" barbie. I'd been digging in the garden and weeding prior to that and after the barbie, hubby and I went for a 3 and a 1/2 mile walk through some beautiful bluebell woods locally. Started to feel a bit wobbly half way round, so tested my BG. It was 2.5!!!!!! I've never had such a low reading AFTER my main meal of the day. Took a couple of glucose tablets but at the end of the walk it had still only come up to 3.7.
I looked at hubby and said "there has to be something in this low-carb" thing.Obviously if low-carb has such a drastic effect, in time, I could see me being able to reduce my insulin.I know Fergus and others have told me this all along but I like to try things for myself and now I shall gradually lower my carb intake, testing to see the effects as I go.
I can't see me ever aiming for a carb level that is TOO low, as, being realistic, I don't have the willpower to give up bread etc altogether. However, a drastic "reduction" that's attainable seems like a very good idea to me.
