Marvelous results. It's been a tough journey but after being diagnosed back in late January, 8 months later, my doctor removed me from my medication. Lost 70 lbs (31.75 kg) and followed a low carb diet with less than 100 g per day. Also added a simple 30 min walk after supper everyday.
I started off with 2x 500 mg of metformin per day, followed by 2x 50/500 mg Jalumet for 3 months and back to the 2x 500 mg of metformin.
First HbA1c was 10.9 when I was diagnosed. The 2nd one back May was 5.2 and my last one in September was 5.1. I saw the doctor earlier this week and she said I don't need meds anymore. Continue to keep the weight off and my diet and everything should be alright. There will be a follow up in 6 months but that's it.
I'm really proud of myself and I want to encourage everyone who's struggling. It's not easy and it takes alot of restraint and self control but it's possible.
Thanks to everyone. I haven't interacted much on this forum but I have read alot. So many great advice here that helped me through my journey. Thank you.
I'm nervous to continue without any medication. I may give it more credit than it deserves but still I'm anxious to see the results.
Thanks again to everyone.
Thank you. I don't, avoid them altogether but I've cut out the main culprits of my previous diet. Doctors here in Quebec say to max out at 75g of carbs per meal, 20g per snack and avoid the three P's : Pasta, potatoes and bread (pain in french).Stunning result & well done on the weight loss, for some it's the magic bullet.
How do you fare if you eat carbs or do you avoid them altogether ?
Like you I lost 70lbs post diagnosis.Thank you. I don't, avoid them altogether but I've cut out the main culprits of my previous diet. Doctors here in Quebec say to max out at 75g of carbs per meal, 20g per snack and avoid the three P's : Pasta, potatoes and bread (pain in french).
I barely had any pasta or potatoes of any form (oh how I miss poutine) and as for bread, I found a loaf that only contained 17g per 2 slices. I also decided to limit the carb intake at half of what the doctors suggests.
A superb achievement, very well done. Holding the line steady from here on should keep you free of those meds. It's been a tough journey but after being diagnosed back in late January, 8 months later, my doctor removed me from my medication.
