Find I am eating a lot more of so called bad foods, ie, for breakfast I had wholemeal toast with butter, for lunch I had grilled bacon with poached eggs and tomatoes. For dinner tonight I am having cauliflower and broccoli cheese. So it seems I am replacing carbs with things like cheese and eggs.

Is this also going to damage me but in other ways?

Im getting really stumped now as to what I can eat, and often feel like Im not allowed to eat anything anymore and I just dont know what to do :|

Unless you have other health issues and have specifically been told not to eat fats there is no problem eating them in moderation. In fact eating the 'natural' fats is far better than eating processed oils and fats.

Even eating several eggs a week is now accepted as OK. If it is 'natural' cheese then it is virtually carb free, be careful of the cheeses with things added or processed though as they have a lot more carbs in them.

Thanks Sue.

What is a processed cheese? Is it my favourite strong chedder?

Im making cottage pie tomorrow with minced beef, carrots, celery and onion, with a cauliflower mash, looking forward to that and hope its ok to eat?

Im going to end up looking like a cauliflower pretty soon!

I do/did have high cholesterol but with 10mg simvastatin its currently at 4.8 but going in the right direction.

Processed Cheese.........

Any of several types of natural cheese that are pasteurized to lengthen storage life and combined with emulsifiers to aid smoothness. In some cases processed cheeses contain added colorings and preservatives. Products labeled cheese "spreads" or cheese "foods" contain added liquid for a softer, more spreadable mixture. According to U.S. Government standards, only 51 percent of the final weight needs to be cheese. Processed cheeses keep well but lack the distinctive flavor and texture of natural cheeses.

Normal Cheddar should not be classed as a Processed Cheese. Check out the labels.

If you are eating low carb, most fats won't harm you.

If you're interested, Atkins's new book is only £4 incl p+p from Amazon. It has lots of general information about low carb and what to eat, and has a section on diabetes that helps you understand how the diet works.

It is not a wise thing to generalise on a forum. We do not know anyone's medical history or health issues and try and look at all posts holistically not just in relation to diabetes. That is why it is always a wise thing to discuss any changes to diet, medications etc with your HCP who does know your medical history.

DazG,

You may want to check with your gp or diabetes specialist if the above quote is correct before taking on board, I am sure you will find a different answer or approach from your medical professionals.

Here is some useful advice regarding fats from the NHS:
