Hi and welcome, I will tag @daisy1 who will give some diabetes info.

You will probably be advised against avoiding cereals and that fry up breakfasts are the way to sorting out your blood sugar levels ie the LCHF diet. It will help to get a meter to monitor what triggers blood sugar rises.

Hello..

You might be pleased to know that a fry up is OK. Just leave out the hash browns, bread & beans when ordering up.. ;)

check out the low carb section for tips on diet.. Anything with carbs in. Pasta, spuds, certain fruits. Will breakdown when digested to sugar in the blood.

I'll tag in a mix T2 guys with some pointers... @Oldvatr @Squire Fulwood @hankjam @Bluetit1802 @Brunneria

see i got a lot to learn . ive been eating 2 or 3 weetabix in the morning with no sugar an semi skimmed milk

Hi and welcome, I'm new here two maybe 2 weeks now. Diagnosed 6 months and put on metformin end October as HbA1c went up. Just bought a meter and started checking levels and I would strongly advise you to get one ASAP, I'm gobsmacked at what is now apparent where carbs are concerned. That stuff is more destructive than what you may have been told by the NHS, hang around here and you will learn a lot more.

I bought the Codefree SD meter from HomeHealth uk, probably the cheepest meter and test strip on the market and they are spot on. There is a discount code and more info but I don't know to paste all the info on here, but i'm sure one of the good samaritans on here will do the honors very soon.

You will find that you will learn very quickly, the fact that you have found this site indicates you are motivated. As others have said the fry up is better than the weetabix. Kippers are good too. Instead of crisps try pork scratching, unlike flared trousers they weren't confined to the 70's :D Drink plenty of water, and take every opportunity to be mobile when you are not behind the wheel.

That's the way to go - if you drink a lot of coffee it is a good idea to use cream rather than milk - the lactose in milk is a sugar, and you want to avoid that. Just don't glug in the cream - I measure mine out in table spoons, enough to make the drink smooth.
I eat bacon - with it being stored in the freezer I thaw it in the pan with boiling water and a simmer, when the water has removed a lot of the sale and soluble preserving chemicals I pour the whole lot through a sieve and then put the bacon back until it is crispy, then cook the eggs in the fat from the bacon. The result is called Dr Atkins revenge.

Weetabix... No no no.. Yer not Ian Botham.. Lol, any milk can be sssssxxxa wild card..

Your kippers & eggs..? All good.

Get a blood meter & find out what's happening day to day.. Test before people eating & about two hours after? Test when you get up. & before bed... You can controll this with the right diet for you.. & not have to wait for the "official" blood test from your doctor/nurse..
You have definitely come to the right place here..

It can be difficult to give specific advice on what to eat and what not to eat since your meter, when you get one, will give you advice as to what foods raise your blood sugar levels. You can then eat or not eat what it indicates. I think I am safe in saying that you won't be eating three Weetabix for breakfast though.

He ate three Shredded Wheat but I bet the result was the same.

since i been on here ive thrown all my food out and starting again from in the morning with kippers and eggs

I'm still learning this stuff myself but to be honest much of the stuff you have been eating so did I, because I was under the impression that was healthy food and what everyone is told to eat. I'm now learning that this is correct unless you are diabetic, in which case that whole theory needs to be looked at in a totally different way. I've spent Five months since being diagnosed eating that way and it did me no good at all, my glucose level went higher and I was put on medication. Now only this past few weeks since being on here do I know different, and what a wake call it's been

To be fair though.. If @headshot11 is dining from a "truck stop",? Then a good old straight bacon & egg fill up would not give Dr A any greif... ;)

so can i get a meter from a chemist or doctor ?

Here's the rub for most oral meds T2s. The doctor/nurse will dissuade purely on "monitory" (NHS budget.) grounds..
No one will contradict me saying you do need one anyway
