I'm Rosie and I'm a carboholic

Try dipping asparagus or purple sprouting broccoli into boiled eggs.
For lunch that'd be good, but it doesn't fit mentally with me for brekkie! I do miss toast. I'm hoping that when I lose the weight and my liver & pancreas get the chance to behave the way they're meant to, I'll be able to fit boiled egg, toast and marmalade back in on a weekend.

Try half a slice of some good wholemeal seeded bread. People seem to get on with Burgen who do a variety of ones with seeds. I've put bread, spuds and pasta etc right off the menu as I know that once I start it would be easy to slip back into old habits. I'm already planning the jacket spud I'm going to have when I've lost half my weight.

Jacket spuds would do it for me, along with my homemade seedy bread.

I'm doing no bread, potatoes, pasta or rice off the menu too, for exactly those reasons. When I lose a stone I am going to have a Chinese meal.

Interestingly, although it is 1 o'clock in the morning and I have succumbed to drinking (vodka & red wine - not mixed!) my BS is 4.5 - lowest ever. no wonder I get the dreaded dawn phenomena.

Does this mean I should live on vodka & red wine?

Note to self - do try not to overdo it on the weekend!

Week 3 - Sat 1/6/14
  • carbs 25
  • cals - 1332
  • BG - 5.5 (4.5 in middle of the night - see above post!)
AND - did a fasting test this morning (Sun) - 6.8 that's the lowest that's been for me (highest was 18.2 last Nov).

Really, eating like this is relatively easy for me as I do like meat and green veg. I also don't mind eating similar things every day as long as they are nice.

Great result Rosie and I'm so glad you are finding it easy and sustainable. I'm like you, I don't mind eating the same thing often, as long as it's tasty.

Week 4 - Mon 2/6/14 Really bad day - don't know what set me off

  • carbs 202 - Massively high - went on a real binge - curry, naan bread, toast - stupid, stupid, stupid
  • cals - 2599
  • BG - 10.5 fasting after a potato and a bit of melon the night before, 6.8 2 hrs after lunch - BUT... just tested this morning, fasting, after last night's binge and I'm at 12.3. The stupidity of this has hit me hard. I simply cannot take a day off as it does me no good at all.
OK - moving on...

Hi rosie, dont beat yourself up too bad, we all go off the rails on occasions. I had a mega bad day sunday with lots of toast and had a curry with rice! I haven't eaten rice for weeks. Like you no idea what triggered it but have put it behind me and concentrating on having a good rest of week. x

Did you feel physically awful the next day? I feel all blocked up and have a headache today. Now it could just be a cold, but I was wondering if it was the total carb overload.

I did feel pretty rough yesterday but like you thought It might be start of a cold. I also drank copious amounts of wine sat night without eating so may also of been still having an impact. Sat night may also actually have been my trigger to carb overload sunday. Feel much better today so if it is the carbs hopefully you will feel better tomorrow. x upwards and onwards as they say!!

Yeah, have just done a quick Google and found other people who cheated got paid back with these sort of physical feelings, so maybe not a cold. At least it should serve to put me off doing this too often!

We have all done the carb binge.

Well, I have and you have. Wait - maybe we're the only ones, and everyone else is perfect?!?! ;-)

Nope I do it every week

So is this OK for you now Andrew? Don't you find you want more and more carbs when you have some extra? (Yes, this question is coming from someone who has consumed mainly carbs for 10 days! - not today though.)

No I don't. The only thing that I find I cannot control myself on (and I really don't understand it) is peanuts. One handful just turns into a bag. I ended up deciding to eat 5 huge handfuls last night just to get rid of them and finish the bag so I have no more in the house. I was still processing the extra protein in the morning from them. Peanuts will definitely be my downfall!

Week 4 - Tues 3/6/14
  • carbs 22 - Back on track here
  • cals - 1312 - A bit over but I had a good long walk with the dog
  • BG - Not testing again. I'll see what I am tomorrow.
