I'm Rosie and I'm a carboholic

Do watch out for the burger buns though. You could try a bite and then a lap around the garden before your next bite.:D

No problem there. I don't like them and my husband wouldn't have that sort of processed bread in the house. Dad is diabetic, sister is a slimming Worldoholic (has been 3lb off goal weight for 6 months ;) but won't give up the wine to get there). We will be having meat and salad, with potatoes for brother-in-law & husband (who will have cycled 75 miles by the time we eat, it being Sunday - wish I'd kept up the cycling.)

Week 2 - Sat 24/5/14
  • carbs 35
  • cals - 1168
  • BG - 7.3
A good day, but... BIG family BBQ today. I've put in what I plan to have, and the carbs look to stay under 80, but not the calories. I'm OK with that occasionally.

Oh dear. Well, the carbs didn't stay under 80. I had Doritos and a couple of potatoes, and, ermm... I counted 6 bottles of cava used up and there was only me and my sister on the fizz. :hungover::hungover::hungover: It was over a 10 hour period.

Just tested at 10.8. Which is not bad for me before breakfast, considering what I had yesterday.

I think a blow out is ok once in a while as long as that is all it is. My diabetic neighbour used to always be having off limit things with the excuse that I only ever have X on Mondays, or Tuesdays, etc. Part of my lifestyle change is going to be stopping seeing food as a reward, a treat or most importantly for me a comfort and substitute for happiness. I'm slowly learning that being overweight and now diabetic makes me even less happy so it's got to be this way for the forseeable future. So chalk it up to an enjoyable day and then move onwards.

you should have done a lap between glasses - I am sure by the end it would have been a mile round ;) As long as you enjoyed your day then excellent and no regrets

Week 3 - Tues 27/5/14
  • carbs 29
  • cals - 1140
  • BG - 10.3 Leftover from a weekend of too many carbs I suspect.
Back on track today after my weekend. Let's see if I can actually lose weight this week.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I'm sure you will start losing weight as the insulin resistance and amount of insulin in your system lowers! ;)

Good luck for the week!

Otherwise I'm going to have to stalk you, Skal, and copy whatever you are eating!

Week 3 - Weds 28/5/14
  • carbs 23
  • cals - 935
  • BG - 7.5
Argg, that was my last blood testing strip until my next prescription. I'm only meant to be testing a couple of times each week. I've ordered some more online, but they haven't arrived yet. Hopefully, if I can keep up days like this I will see BG getting below 7.

Week 3 - Thurs 29/5/14
  • carbs 26
  • cals - 946
  • BG - no testing today
Feeling fine on this.

Hi Rosie, are you keeping a log of your weight since diagnosis as I am sure you will be falling fast. I plotted my fasting against weight loss and found a significant change at about 15% weight loss (also in my blood pressure as well

Ha! I have not lost a single pound yet. I am hoping this kicks in soon, but I think my last 2 weekends where I ate carbs at social events set me back (and drank way too much last Sunday!).

However, completing my food diary in MyFitnessPal just now, it says I am in starvation mode and should up my cals. I'm ignoring that as a couple of days not using all my cals (1200) will not hurt. Hey, it works on the 5:2 diet. So I now seem to be doing a mix of LCHF, counting calories and 5:2 - with Gliclazide working against me! o_O

Some of us did the starvation bit for several weeks and found it did wonders. If you had the weight to lose and you ensure you get the nutritions you need I wouldn't worry about it too much. You do need to stop your body going into starvation mode though and exercise seemed to play a large part for me and the more you can do the more you can increase your calories. Have a look at @paulins thread where she is following the newcastle diet (600 cal per day)

I am a bit limited with exercise as I am waiting for a knee op. I walk the dog daily for at least 30 mins, but it's a slow walk. I've managed to build up what I'm doing and include walking up one of the few hills near Cambridge so I get something that makes me breathe hard. I can't cycle any more and, while I love swimming, I lack confidence to bare all 17 stone in the local pool. I was going to the gym twice a week up until Christmas, but again, I'm a bit limited in what I can do - still, I think you're right Andrew. That's what I need to do, since otherwise I'm very sedentary working from home (unless I'm gardening).

You could look into resistance exercise - that doesnt need much mobility - I don't know anything about it though. You are a similar weight as I was (well I was heavier at 17st 9lb) at Christmas. Here is a graph of my weight

This whole period was done with a very low calorie diet. What was a marvel was the rapid improvement in my Blood Glucose Levels (I consider myself as really lucky).

Grrr... am really missing testing my BS. I have ordered next prescription for Tuesday and have had extra test strips on order from ebay for over a week - just marked as dispatched.

However, on the bright side I am loving having bacon and egg for breakfast. I adore both and am not even missing the toast. Any suggestions for something sensible to dip in a boiled egg for breakfast as my weekend tradition is to sit with husband and have a late breakfast of these.

Week 3 - Fri 30/5/14
  • carbs 24
  • cals - 1350
  • BG - no testing today - can't wait for new strips to arrive so I can test again.
Had the runs today though. :yuck:

Yay! Test strips arrived today and I am 5.5 - lowest yet. Also, I seem to have lost 3lb - maybe due to runs yesterday!
