I went to see my diabetes team via planning for a pregnancy .
Was told to see my doctor for folic acid then ring and book an appointment for pre conception clinic .
So I'm at my doctors and after my folic acid had been prescribed she told me that I could start trying after so many months on folic acid , then go back to her once I'm pregnant and she will then transfer me on to the hospital with where I need to be with seeing midwife ect .
So I said what about the pre conception clinic and she said she's never heard of it and doesn't understand why I've been told to go here before I've conceived . She's a really good doctor that's what I don't get , it seems the diabetes team have scared me with all this different stuff where as my doctor said to calm down and it's fine and to do what she has said . So what an earth do I do I've been told two different things and now I'm so lost .
And I've looked up to try and find a number for the pre conception clinic and can not find anything .

Hmmmmm .

Cloe, go to the pre conception clinic hun. It's vitally important for you to attend. It was at this clinic where I got support in managing my blood sugars in preparation for pregnancy. They provide advice, guidance and support to diabetics hoping to conceive.
Your GP may be a good Dr, but in my experience, they don't have a clear enough understanding of diabetes to be able to properly advise you regarding getting pregnant and the implications of doing so with diabetes!!!
Get in touch with them via your diabetic unit at your local hospital.

Good luck!! xx

Thank you so much for replying , I had an idea of what to do myself , which was to go to pre preconception clinic , just could not understand why she would not advice this . My partner also agreed to go with the options from the diabetes team , I obviously want whats best for me and the baby , so I shall ring my diabetes nurse tomorrow , and hopefully she can give me a number for the pre pregnancy clinic as last time she did not just told me to ring the hospital , but there's so many numbers for different wards ect but I don't want a ward lol so I shall be phoning her tomorrow as she is not in right now .
Thank you for replying much appreciated :):):)

Hi Cloe

The diabetic preconception clinic will probably be held at the diabetic outpatients at your local hospital by one of the diabetic nurses who specialises in pregnancy, it isn't a separate building with a different phone number iykwim!

Here are the NICE Guidelines on what help and support you are entitled to

http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG063Guidance.pdf

And remember, you can go to any Diabetic Clinic in the country you want if you don't feel you are getting the right help, you just need to ask your GP to transfer your care. x :)

Oh yeah I get what your saying , as I got told to ring maternity , but there all different wards and for labour ect I'm like well I don't want that one , I wasn't given much advice on where I need to ring , so hopefully she will ring me back Monday with a number which should of been giving to me in the first place I think , but annoyed as have to wait over the weekend . If she doesn't then I will try the diabetics outpatients .
I will definitely have a read of that link that you sent through it seems very helpful .
Thank you so much for all the help you provided .

You're welcome - hope it helps! Tbh, I don't know why they've told you to phone anyone, your diabetes team should have arranged it all for you!

All the best!

Well I thought that too , I went there with high hopes to go onto the next level of preparing for pregnancy , and wasn't told a great deal , and no help on the number , wonder why they are doing it this way !! It's silly .
But yes it's really helped as I think I've got a bit more information on here from you guys so will defiantly be having a word Monday !!
I shall keep you posted
Thanks again :):):)
