I love beetroot and red cabbage but my doctor said I can't eat these. I thought I could eat all veg (not potatoes etc) any advice?? I've lost nearly 2 stone since being diagnosed T2 the end of nov

Cabbage is ok but not sure about beetroot if in a jar

Generally my rule of thumb is above ground vegetables are fine - just don't eat (if you are following LCHF) those that grow underground. Good luck - it's worked wonders for me

Thank you very much. That's good advice and easy to remember

Why not?

One thing you can do is use a meter to check the effects that the beetroot and red cabbage have on your glucose levels. That's the only real way you can know, as different people have different tolerances to carbs - to misquote: one woman's beetroot is another woman's poison....

When foods are generally not recommended due to their high(er) carbohydrate content, sometimes it's possible to eat a small portion as part of a meal, without it having too much effect on your glucose levels. A lot of recipes for cooked beetroot include soured cream, so eating it this way the cream will also help lower any impact that it has on them.
