It just occurred to me that I haven't introduced myself.

Hi my name is Wayne or you can call me "mist" or that guy with the one weird eye that stares at you and makes you really uncomfortable..:***:

Regardless, I've been diabetic for, well I'm not really sure, could have been years but it was discovered after a rather nasty and painful bout of pancreatitis.

I don't really understand diabetes all that well and frankly it's a stupid condition..lol..death by sugar? I mean really? That's the best it can do?

Oh well, hope your all well (as can be) and coping better than me, or at least take it more seriously than me.

Have a good one :)

Hello @mist. I'm afraid this site is a bit like open heart surgery so you are going to have to explain what the staring eye is all about. Is it artificial, or just an avatar that blanks out an eye.

Hi Wayne, yup it feels like a slow death; :-)

Hi Wayne - welcome - I'm a newbie too and just downgraded after 3 weeks to being Type 2 to Pre Diabetic so I'm really happy but it's given me a kick up the ar** to make major changes. One of which is to do even less dusting in the house. :-D Hope all OK with you...and your eye!!

Haha, no worries. Well I'm not exactly sure what is going on with my eyes but, shortly after my "breakdown" my left eyelid started to drop and now for some reason it looks like I'm staring wide eyed all the time. It might be something called Ptosis but as I have agoraphobia, I can't really get to an optician to get it checked out. My vision is fine though, well I'm blind in my left eye since birth but my other eye is fine..rofl

Meh, I'm falling apart at the seams.

Sometimes I rock a pirate patch..haha

Hi @mist , welcome :) it sounds like you are probably type 3c (diabetes as a result of pancreatitis) rather than type 1 (autoimmune diabetes) & you might want to check out the type 3c bit of the forum - http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/type-3c-pancreatic-diabetes.73/ - only because there might be additional things for you to consider with medication and wider loss of pancreatic function beyond just insulin production that type 1s won't necassarily be aware of /able to help with.

Not sure, I inject insulin that's all I know..lol

To be honest I don't expect to live long enough for diabetes to become an issue.

I'm sorry to hear that, is that a prognosis from another medical issue? Your signature definitely sounds like you've been through the mill and you are a bit of a star when it comes to beating the odds :) hopefully you will be able continue in that way and enjoy your life to the full. It might be that managing the diabetes will help with that, and if you'd be interested in managing the diabetes it would be worth checking out the 3c forum, cos figuring out what type you have is probably a good first step to work out how to manage it, but of course, if you do have a poor prognosis it would be perfectly understandable if managing diabetes isn't top of your list of priorities.

Best wishes.

It seems that opticians can/do run services for agoraphobic and house bound patients mist - I guess not all of them do - but you may be able to track one down in your town? {{Hugs }} You've been through a lot - so a natural survivor despite the odds. You'll probably outlive me. The doc told me to do whatever I wanted now...I think they think I don't have long to go but mwah...I'll outlive them all!! :-d
