I'm a Retired Physical Ed. Teacher , worked in Health Clubs and a Certified Personal Trainer. I, also, have Type 2 Diabetes. One simple thing you can do, if you are retired, or have the time, is as follows: Every time you eat a meal, or a snack with carbohydrates, immediately upon finishing take a 10 minute walk. I am retired, I workout in my apartment, and keep a written record of everything I do, take, or eat, time date, amount of calories, what exercise, how longIi worked-out, and test my sugar It is a comprehensive journal of my day to day life.

I know I'm OCD, but I always know where I am with my Diabetes. If you walk immediately after consuming carbohydrates, or sugary treats, since glucose burns first, you can literally, "take some of the sugar off the top, of what you have eaten. Essentially burning it,before it converts to carbohydrates, or burn it before it it circulates for an extended amount of time. I live in a 30 ft. apartment I simply walk the length, have a sturdy platform (box, or heavy duty step of some sort).at one end. I take a step up, a step down with one leg, then do the same with the other leg, then walk back to the door (30 ft.) and repeat the process. I do around 25 trips. (adjust for your fitness level). You can increase leg, and hip strength from hip, and quad flexion with the step-up, then recover on your walk phase. I had a 4-way heart By-Pass last year, this strengthens my heart, and "burns the sugar off the top". You will lose weight, gain strength, and burn sugar. It is a win, win for you.:) Good luck. E-mail me for further advice.

Exercise is so beneficial for every ones well being, regarding the mind and the body. I'm not type 2, but always loved to be active as much as possible and to keep going.:)

Best wishes RRB

Thanks for the run down of your regime. I have a simpler one as I work and walk mine off.
However the treats and carbs, I couldn't cope with them no matter how much work I would need to walk them off!
Well done for your control!

Welcome to the forum,I don't have an excercise regime at the moment as I find it boring but I know I have to start somewhere.Thank you for the advice.:)

My exercise regime is walking. Not far and not for long, but always twice a day. I don't know where you live, but if it's by the sea, or in the countryside, or near a park, try a walk. Breathe in the fresh air, stop and listen to the birds singing, smile and say hello to people you pass. There is nothing boring about that. I would be bored to death peddling in a gym but am lucky to live near fields and stables where we stop and look at the animals, donkeys, ponies, geese, ducks, pigs, goats and hens. Sometimes down to the river (we drive to the car park nearby) and walk along the path. It's amazing how many people we have got to know, just to say hello to. I love it.

It is so worth doing some exercise and I only wish I'd started sooner in life( and wouldn't be a diabetic I bet!). I either do some walking , even if it's just a power whizz round the supermarket and then some shopping in town or more often, I peddle on my exercise bike. I don't find it boring as I have filled my ipad with rubbish tunes that I like- guilty pleasures like Barry Manilow and David Cassidy and I just sit and peddle 20 minutes or so away twice a day if I have time. I also do as suggested by the OP and peddle for ten minutes or so post a carby treat- so if I have 4 potato wedges or so, then I have to haul my derriere upstairs and peddle about 20 minutes after eating. I've found that exercise has helped lower weight and BP as well as my BS so it really is a case of no pain no gain here.

Hi yes I used to walk as I am lucky that I live opposite a park until recently when my whippet passed away it feels strange going over there but I have to make more of an effort,I do feel lost without a pet we do have a trantula and a royal python but may look silly taking them out lol. Also would like to have someone to go with as I find it lonely and boring on my own.

Not sure what this means, but I would still reckon exercise is good advice?
It means he made a post invited you to email him then left the forum.

Everyone should know exercise is the key to good health whether you have diabetes or not :)
