My wife and I have been low carbing for over month.

I use keto sticks and have been in ketosis since the end of the first week.

I was using MFP to monitor what we are eating And it says we should be losing weight,

I have weighed out food etc used the bar code scanner which is good. But the weight will not move. (

We have eggs bacon mushrooms cooked in butter.
lunch is salad with fish or ham with mayo and coleslaw
dinner tonight was 2 small pork belly slices grilled, mix veg stir fry.
coffee with double cream
fruit berries in sugar free jelly with double cream.

Our only direct carbs are from milk.
most days carbs are below 20

We are thinking of cutting back the protien by going veggie at lunch and dinner a couple of days a week.

@carol anne - you need to read up on low carb high fat diets - plenty of people on this forum are losing weight this way, and it's an excellent diet for diabetics, because it also helps reduce high blood glucose levels. It's carbohydrates not fat that are the problem, and skimmed milk is full of carbohydrates, so isn't appropriate for this type of diet.

@Inkey-2008 :
It's possible to in ketosis and not lose weight - it's not of itself a weight loss diet - you still do need to take care of total calories. I know because I'm currently in this same position! :(

Check with one of the keto specific nutritional calculators, e.g. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/DietMakeupCalc.php or http://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/, and see how they compare with what MFP is telling you. Jenny Ruhl's mini book advertised on the phlaunt calculator page may also be helpful.

Maybe ditch the milk too for lactose free or something like Alpro unsweetened almond milk, and check carefully for hidden sugars in the mayo and coleslaw if they're not homemade.

Hi inkey
Your diet is very similar to mine. I look upon it as a long term sustainable diet. My weight has been stable for a year now, and I am not wanting to loose weight (BMI of 22). My Mfp says no weight change.

To loose weight I would suggest reducing calories and imputing in a few changes into mfp to make these changes.

You don't mention food quantities. This is very important. 20g carb is very low, which is great. Not sure how you achieve this with berries and milk, unless these quantities are very low.

Any idea what your % protein and fat is. Mine is 80% fat, 15% protein. 5% carb

Maybe your protein is a little too high.

Just some observations. I am no expert.

Thankyou all for the replies.
I have been on low carbs for over 18 months but really cut back a month ago. 99% of our meals are cooked from scrach so we know what goes in and labels are read before buying.
We dont have a large buget so keep things simple.
I also dont want to go down the flour replacement route as we dont whant to be tempted back to wheat based foods.
I will try cutting back the protien.
We have tried tea without milk yuk so we cut back on the amount we drink and either drink coffeee with cream or low cal drinks or water.
We dont buy sugar. We use a replacement if we need a sweetner which in not offen.
The berries amount to 80 grams each and we are both very fond of them so dont want to cut them out.

On the plus side a recent check showed good results for bloob sugar and colestrol, and have been of medication for over 6 months now for the diebeties.
But i
I am still over 100kg and need to get another 10kg off according to the doctor.

You say you are "still" over a certain weight - does it mean you have recently lost some? I had to remind myself (after years of failed dieting) that the body is not a machine. Inputting a determined number of calories/carbs does not automatically result in desired weight loss the same week. If you've already shed some fat, your body needs to readjust, reallocate all the resources that went with that fat (blood vessels, cell walls, etc.) and rebalance before shedding some more.

Of course, it is important to clarify what exactly and how much you are eating. It is great that you weigh and record everything, yet I'm surprised, like Ian DP, that veggies for 3 meals, milk, fruit and everything else totals 20 carbs. Which tool are you using? I use Fitday.com, and even protein items like meat and eggs show some carb content, and dairy (cream and cheese, I don't take milk) even more. It all adds up. With vegetables for 3 meals, I often get to 30-40 grams of carbs per day.

I am low carbing and have GAINED weight
If you reduce your cal' intake to 800to 1.000 and balance the carbs at 20g ,100gproteins ,120g fat ...plenty....you will lose weight. But check with your doc' if your ok to do this as it is quite strict, or just do it every other day .

My weight didn't budge for a while, but I added more fat and reduced my protein. Now, it is moving again. I eat veggies at every meal, but I eat fruit sparingly- every other day or so. Still, since I eat a good deal of avocados and leafy greens, it is low carb and yet I get all of the nutrients I need.

Are you drinking enough water? Getting enough fiber in your diet? These are two things that affect my weight loss too.
I like MFP, but be wary of come of the member-submitted food choices. They are not always accurate.

I agree with Larissima, our bodies are not a predictable machine. Sometimes, I am doing everything right and my weight stays the same. Other times, it drops a good chunk...doing exactly what I had been doing all along. I do find that I am losing inches, even if my weight doesn't budge.

Hang in there. Sometimes, it helps to re-evaluate your diet and see if you can tweak it a little. Just when I think I have it, I don't. ;) It is most definitely a journey.

Kudos to you for strong work and getting off of your diabetes medication. So obviously, you are on the right track!
