My 12 year old daughter Grace is type 1. Ten days ago she woke up with stomach pains with a high temperature and burning feelings when she goes to the toilet. Also sickness and is tired. She has been feeling sick throughout and at times been sick. She went to AandE but was sent home with no medication after the doctor brought her temperature down. The next day she was still unwell so we went to the doctors and a nurse tested her urine and said she had a water infection and gave her a course of 3 days on antibyotics. She completed the course and was still no better so we went to A andE again .One doctor said it might be her appendics but the other doctor said it is a kidney infection and give her a 10 day course of antibiotics . This was 3 days ago and my daughter is at home still in pain feeling no better. She also had the chills. At the moment she is saying her stomach hurts and is really tired . Her urine still causes a burning pain . Has parents we are at a loss what to do next and all really worried and tired. Can somebody give us some advice because the doctors/hospital have done nothing to help

@Northernboy72 It does sound like it might be a urinary infection. Did they test her urine to see what bacteria were there? Some antibiotics won't work and a different one will be needed.

Is she drinking plenty of water to flush things through?

I'd give 111 a call. She's clearly not well and I'd have thought the second lot of antibiotics would be working by now.

If it is a urinary thing, a hot water bottle on her tummy (or back) might help while you're waiting for medical advice.

If she's really unwell, I'd take her to A and E. I know you said they weren't that helpful, but it should be different doctors there and if she's really unwell hopefully they will do something.

Thanks for that azure. Did not mention what bacteria was in her urine but did say her white blood cells are high or something along that line. She is drinking plenty of water and is on co-amoxiclav for ten days. She has not been sick for a few days and no longer has the chills which is good.

It's still worth calling for advice, I'd say. Urinary infections can be nasty things, and sometimes treatment does need altering or adding to.

I hope she's ok. Having had a urinary infection myself, I sympathise hugely.

@Northernboy72 . Sorry I can't really give any advice other than my wife is a nurse and one of the most underrated conditions in hospitals are UTI's. with the right treatment results are fast and positive. Get back down AE and kick up a fuss.
Good luck.
