My blood sugars have been all over the place, for example at lunch today it was 5.7, i get to 5pm and it 27,.4!!!!!! i had a packet crisps as a snack at 2pm and after that i went out to the shops which would also help keep it down, why do things like this keep on happening???

Have you actually got an infection, like a cold ? If so, your BG may be running higher. Another explanation may be those crisps - what was the carb count, and did you bolus for it ?

Of course it could be a false reading too, contamination on your fingers ? Ok, I'm picking on the example you gave, but if it's been a roller coaster for a few days, it sounds like an infection is the culprit

@Heathenlass Thankyou for the reply and i'm on novomix 30 i haven't moved onto the basal bolus yet, and i tested it twice to check because you know 27 is very high and it said basically the same reading, it's been happening for about 5 days but not this high so i think i should just go and get checked out.

Ah, I see. Then yes, you should get it checked out because that's quite a leap ! Are you feeling Ok ? What are your levels now ?

i find that if i forget to wash my hands properly or touch things around the kitchen i can get rather high results too. This could be the case maybe ?

I always test in the kitchen and it occurred to me that after washing my hands and drying them on the kitchen towel that I could be contaminating my fingers. If I'm cooking, preparing food, or whatever and quickly rinse my hands and use the towel, it could well be contaminated with flour, marg, olive oil, egg, potato starch or any number of things. I now always dry my hands on kitchen paper prior to the bg test. At least that way, I know my fingers are as clean as possible.

@Heathenlass My necks rather sore and i keep on having to urinate and i tested 5 minutes ago and it's 17,5

Do you have any ketosticks, Jonathan ? If you do, try testing for ketones. If you have high ketones, call 111 for advice. As you won't be able to follow the same sick day rules that basal/bolus users can use because you are on Novomix. If you don't have any Ketosticks ( and you should have , get your GP to prescribe them ) , call 111 anyway.

Yes, that would have a possible false reading result ;) I found out too that the anti bacterial gel used in hospitals gives scarey results !
