Hi psmc64 here,
I am new to the sitr but not so new to diabetes i have a 7 - 14 day average 7.1 blood g and an HB1c of 6.4 my doctor says that he does not want to give metformin yet as he says that when on the medication you cannot come of it - I am tired drink water by the gallon and ahd what is almost an uncontriable itch in difficult places I do have a heart condition and take some Irbesartan which in part is diabetic medication I have been to the diabetic clinic wanting to go on Victoza as I am obese but have lost 2.5 stone since last August and am now 118.4 kg's Any suggestions please I feel that I should be on a slow realease 750 mg meyformin and Vicyoza as that will help with weight loss

I'm relatively new myself but not too new to insult your doctor! My doc said about me possibly coming off metformin as my figures are good (& I wont insult my doc by suggesting they could be wrong as I have to see them again!) Anyway I stayed on 1 tablet as it's still early days for me, it sounds like you have more sense than the doc, as you have pointed out metformin will also help with weight loss. Only defence I can come up with is doc may know of metformin not being compatible with other meds? But you're definately due a better explanation that the "can't come off it" rubbish he's spouing right now
