Infusion site scar tissue?

I'm new to this site because I'm having a problem I've never had before. First of all, I'm type 1 and I've had it for 9 years. I'm 16 now. My A1C is 7.2 right now and has never been higher then 8.5. I'm 6 feet 175 pounds (a little out of shape). I've been on a pump 5 years. Ever since I got it in 2007, I've been fully independent. I've always done everything myself and still do. Finally, my question is, so since last Friday, my infusion sites just don't last. It's like all of the sudden I've developed a **** load of scar tissue. I've never had a problem like this. Some sites go bad two minutes after I put them in. I switch sites every two days and alternate sides of my hip/butt. But now Im like 1 for 8 on infusion sites and keep getting high as a kite. No I'm not going to sworn to my stomach. They get ripped out too much, but I could get thighs I guess.

Are you absolutely sure it's your sites and not a bad batch of sets?

If it's your sites, why not try your stomach again and be ultra careful not to rip them off? You can also use your back (above your waistband). Some people use their arms but I've never tried that because I just don't fancy it.
 
I'd try a different area of your body. I used my tummy with no problems for four plus years then I suddenly got lots of highs. I then swapped to my thighs and that sorted it.

Now I do a few months in my thighs and then swap to my bum. My tummy doesn't work at all for me now.
 
How do you know a site has gone bad after 2mins, what exactly is happening? Tummy sets do not get ripped out if you take a very simple precaution...... put a bit of tape over the tubing about an inch or a couple of cm's from the connection with your cannula.
Also have you done some basic basal testing? Being 16 tends to cause a lot of hormone problems so some of your issues could be down to just needing to overhaul your basal.

Very well done though for looking after your diabetes and taking responsibility, at 16 not many do.

What do you mean by "go bad two minutes after I put them in"? Mine only go bad when they start healing over towards the end of three days, and it only shows when my blood sugars rise. So I don't get what you mean? Can you explain more?

Like they start leaking right away
 
Oh, that's bad. But it sounds like a problem with the set or the insertion of it. I think you need to go see your DSN and consult with her/him. In the meantime, you need to go back to MDI and quickly. But I don't think anyone here can help. If it's a set or insertion problem, though, the pump company should send you a new batch instantly. Get on the phone to them and describe the problem. I doubt it's scar tissue, frankly, I've had Type 1 for nearly fifty years and some of my sites don't absorb well, but they don't actually reject a set.

If that's the case then something is wrong with your cannula (set) or insertion method. IE., it's bent or pinched. I've had a couple do that on me.
What pump are you using?
Try different areas for your cannula and make sure you follow everything through as it should be done no short cuts so that rules out user error.

Do contact your DSN though and ask for help. Those cannulas cost on average £10 each so replacements need to be secured FOC from the pump company if they are at fault.
