Injecting at work

Hi guys, I am type 1 diabetic and recently at work I have requested a clean and private place for me to inject as my work place does not have a first aid room. I have been told by the HR manager that it is not a legal obligation for them to provide me with a clean and private place and that I should either inject at my desk, at the toilets or IF a meeting room is available I could use that however the only one meeting room they have is mostly booked out. Am I within my rights to raise this issue as a grievance as I have told them it is having a huge impact on my health and mental wellbeing and I also have a letter from my GP concurring this

What's stopping you from injecting at your desk? With the modern day pens it shouldn't be a issue.

HI, sitting at a desk, or in a place/room/corner that is not so busy should be fine. As long as you are not working in a filthy environment and wash and dry your hands thoroughly, there shouldn't be any problem.

Hi @Faisal12, I understand the reluctance to use a loo and would refuse to do that. I have injected at my desk, but it does depend on what I am wearing - would rather not pull a dress up in the office! Not sure on the legal aspect but think it's worth having another chat with them about it and asking if there is anywhere private that you could use.

When I was still injecting, I didn't give a hoot who saw me or what they thought - I'd jab anywhere & get my belly out for all to see! Haha. How come you're not happy injecting at your desk?

When I was on MDI, I'd inject at my desk. I always bore that in mind when I chose my clothes for the day - that is, I usually went for a skirt and top so I could inject in my tummy easily. Dresses were fine in Summer without tights as I used my thigh.

I was warned to never inject in a toilet. There are germs both on the surfaces and airborne germs too.

I found most people didn't even notice me injecting at work.
