Injecting

Hi there! I'd like to ask a question about something which I've been confused about ever since having diabetes....wen blood testing I test just before I eat.but I've never really known when it is the correct time to check 2 hours after.
Is our 2 hours after injecting or 2 hours after finishing the meal.might sound like a silly question to some of you!

Not a silly question at all I have always been advised to check after eating roughly 2-3 hrs after but everyone gets different advise so is difficult you have to find what is right for you. A diary is a way forward to keep check

I think 2 hrs after first bite.
@LucySW 's answer makes total sense:)
a lot of discussion goes on on the forum about taking insulin 10 m 15 m 20 m or even 30 minutes before eating to minimise the post meal spike.
but it is the first bite that actually causes the BG to start rising so 2 hours post first bite seem spot on !!

I always fear taking that at bedtime incase I get a hypo during the night.but I should have definitely done that I've learnt

I totally understand that fear! Next time try giving a correction dose, but a little less than you would at other times, like 4 units instead of 5 - it may not bring you down into a normal range but it would be better to go through the night and wake at 10 instead of staying at 21. You can then correct again with your breakfast bolus when you feel 'safer'
