Hi, to begin, just know that i am french so my english might be bad, sorry (french forum about diabete aren't really good)

Lately (like for 2/3 months) my injections are hurting me. I do them in my belly or in my bottom, i have novorapid and levemir. The needle is not really painful but when i'm pressing to inject that's when it hurts. Is anybody feeling that too? That's becoming a true problem as i am now kind of afraid when it comes to injecting and that's sometime really painful. I have diabete for 15 years now and this is new to me.
Thank you for reading. M

Hi @MathildeHash
welcome to the forum:)
your english is excellent !!!!

i have posted a link about site rotation here http://www.womenshealthyfitnesstips.com/tag/insulin-site-rotation-chart. that is really important to do to avoid lumpy skin issues. might help with the pain too.
also -- could it be you need a shorter needle if you don't have much fat on you.

I use an 8mm needle on my pen but there are 6mm and 4mm needles available.

could you discuss this with your diabetic care team ?

keep posting and let us know how you get on.

all the best !!

i use 4mm needles and don't normally have a problem unless ii hit a nerve. however have you changed your needles recently? some needles are better (and more expensive) than others. My local health authority has recently stopped a using patient preferred needles and we can now only get 'My Life Penline classic' which are cheap and bend easily when injected which can cause pain once the needle is in.

Talk to your diabetic team or doctor about site rotation and using different sites.

I am using 4mm needles. I try to make sure before every injection that the area is okay, touching my skin and cheking if i have no bruise. It kind of feel like birning when the insulin in "going in" like if my body was not accepting it.
I'm sometime scared insulin might stop working on me, is it possible ? I heard of anti insulin antibody (hope the translation is right)

I know exactly what you mean - it's nothing to do with the needle but when the insulin enters under your skin there is a strange burning sensation temporarily? I get that too occasionally but mainly when injecting higher doses. No idea what causes it - anyone have any ideas?

A doctor once told me that lantus was more painful than other to some people. But i am not using it and i feel that kind of burning every time.

How much are you injecting? In my experience, large doses can definitely hurt more (and are known to be unpredictably absorbed too).

the burning sensation could be caused by the Ph of the insulin compared to the sub-cutaneous layer you are injecting into. you will know if your insulin is working by your blood test results you take every day :)
do talk to you diabetes care team
