Hi everybody. I was diagnosed with Type 1 just a year ago at the age of 76. Bit of a shock but I seem to have settled into a routine so it doesn't really impact my life too much, but I'm still finding out stuff that is probably really basic to most of you. Right now I want to ask for some advice about injection sites.
We're told its important not to inject into the same place too often to avoid 'lumpy bits' in the subcutaneous fat which would make absorbtion of the injected insulin harder. To my mind (when I had a job I was a scientist - the nerdy sort) - that means having a system for knowing where to inject each day, and I've worked out a very simple system to help. I could improve it, but need to know - how far apart would two injection sites have to be in order to still count as separate sites? Obviously if they are too close they would effectively become the same site so far as the creation of lumpy bits is concerned. Is there any established knowledge on this, or can anyone offer some informed advice? Thanks in advance for any replies.
