Diagnosed 2 weeks ago and a bit of a ninny when it comes to injections normally! Not finding the needles too bad so far but something weird happened today. I did my lunchtime injection (in my tummy) and for the 1st time it actually hurt. When I withdrew the needle I bled and when I rubbed the area, I felt a little lump under my finger. It has since gone, but can anyone tell me if I did something wrong or does this just happen sometimes? Thanks, Tracy

ive had simular prob with bruising as well ive had this only a couple times and ive been injecting 4 times a day for about month now when i see my dn or consultant next i will ask him cant think what im doing wrong i alternate site and leave in for 15secs after dose.

any help from members would be greatly welcomed :D
 
Bleeding at the Injection Site
It's normal for a small amount of blood to appear when you inject insulin. This bleeding, which is usually caused when the syringe punctures a tiny blood vessel, can be stopped by putting pressure on the injection site with your finger or a cotton ball.

oh you are ive been going through this site only for a few days now and read a few of your replies to people you are very precise in your posts and very helpfull :D ive hopefully learnt a bit from this site ive now cut down on my weetabix as per forum advice might have to stop the 2 plums as well as my bg seems a little higher than last week on my day 2hr post lunch :roll:
 
Hey......you only see the stuff fit for human consumption.......there's more of a 'slightly' different nature. !!! :roll: Apparently I am a 'know it all'....... am I bovvered !! :lol: :wink:

Bleeding from the site of injection isn't something to worry about although it does look unsightly and looks much worse than it is. What has happened is you have hit a small blood vessel under the fat layer of the skin, if you find this a common occurrence it may be worth speaking with your DSN for advice and they may suggest you change to a smaller needle which can often overcome this problem.

Some injections are painless, some hurt, some bleed, some don't, it's not your fault, you're probably doing everything right, it's just how it is. It's pot luck if you hit a blood vessel or not :wink:
 
I learnt many things since being diagnosed: its fine to inject in your tummy as long as your not too thin; if you are very thin and intend to stay so its best not to inject there at all I think.

Say what? I am VERY thin and my stomach is the main place where it is comfortable to inject. Why is it best not to inject there? What do you mean by 'intent to stay thin'? I would give anything to put on some weight. I've been trying all my life. If you have next to no subcutaneous fat anywhere else, where would you suggest to do it? I'm intruiged. :?
 
I thought upper arms were the only place you might have difficulty injecting if you are very thin?
