My wife and I are planning a dream holiday (safari) in Namibia, departing Feb 2017.

Are there any specific meds or preventative steps I need to consider as a type 1 diabetic?

Hi Stuart,

Your gp practice will know which inoculations you need when travelling to Namibia, watching tv documentary programmes like GP's Behind Closed Doors some have to be given months before travelling so I'd get in touch with them asap if I were you.

As for travelling with type 1, the following article has some great advice:

Have a enjoyable time and stay safe.

My grandson spent 6 weeks in Namibia this last summer working on a wildlife reserve. He had all the inoculations advised by his GP according to (I think) the Foreign Office guidance. Some were on the NHS and some he had to pay for - and needed booking well in advance. If any of them require more than one vaccination you do need to leave enough time.
