Hi,
I did a few weeks of the Insanity workouts last year. I enjoyed it until I strained my knee. Since then I've been diagnosed T2, switched to a low-carb-high-fat ketogenic diet, lost a whole bunch of weight, got my Hba1C into normal range and so I'm thinking about starting Insanity again.

My question is - what do I need to know about LCHF and these high intensity workouts?

I am doing the same kind of workout, so I would like to know, too ;)

What has worked best for me is a meal 2 hours beforehand, or even no meal before, but after. I might eat more carbs before, and no after. But, really, I have no idea if I am doing the right thing :headphone:

There is a lot of information on LCHF and HIIT available on the web. The most important thing to be aware of is that HIIT would deplete any glycogen you may have in your muscles. There are mixed views as to whether doing HIIT is possible on LCHF. I personally have found that I could undertake high intensity training on low carbs (around 60g a day) without issue, but I was eating 45% of my calories from Protein, which would cause my glycogen stores to be restored through gluconeogenesis.

I'd just say give it a go, and if you feel weak or you can't prolong the exercise then you might need to look at some form of periodic ketogenic diet, where you carb load one day a week and undertake ketosis for the rest of the time. This will require you to watch your glucose levels.

Let me know how it goes. I just came back from a class with so many burpees. I hate them, but now I actually start to feel stronger :D
