Insight Course....

Hi Guys just wondered if any of you been on this course?

its called the Insight course in Oxfordshire and I think its called a DAPHE course everywhere else.

Anyway I've seen many posts about carb eating and all that and what to eat and not to eat.

Well i have been on this course for 3 weeks now (1 Day every week) its a 4 week course and then you return after 5 weeks for the last day of course.
I have been a diabetic for 26 years and have had my fair share of being controlled and not being in control of my diabetes.

Anyway I am so pleased I went on this course its the best thing I have ever done, I have half the amount of insulin I take and I can count carbs in food much easier, and know exactly how much insulin to have, its the best, so my advice to all the type 1 diabetics get ya self on the course its a life changing experience well it is for me, I dont throw as many hypo's as what I use to and I am loosing weight which is a good thing for me to, and my bloods are brilliant.

Just thought I would share my experience with you all

Cheers

Life should NOT b a journey 2 the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather 2 skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ “WOO HOO what a ride!"

thats the course I was hoping to go on, I was on the waiting list but then told I wasn't allowed to go.

But I am already carb counting and I have flexibility and good control, so I agree that the principles should be taught to everyone.

sounds like a good course, would u say it was for ppl who av got past the honeymoon period and can adjust their insulin or for newly diagnosed?

Aidy xx

...you dont even know how very special you are...

OK, someone has to say it.

There are some people who come onto this forum because they need help or advice in coming to terms with diabetes. Usually people who are recently diagnosed. Sometimes they are frightened, sometimes they just need reassurance that they are going in the right direction.

There are others who are more experienced or have specialist knowledge and are in a position to offer advice, guidance, or just a few caring or supportive words to those who need it.

And then there is Anon.

you said it dennis - i on the other hand is still waiting for advice on if the course is for ppl who are out of the honeymoon period of diabetes or for ppl who are on with it?

Hi Aidy,

I don't have any personal experience of the DAFNE course (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) but quite a few who have been lucky enough to get a place on one have said it was brilliant and they learned a huge amount from it. It is designed specifically for Type 1s, no matter how newly diagnosed you are. I suggest you ask your diabetes support team if they can get you booked on one. This link will tell you more about the courses
http://www.dafne.uk.com/

There was also a similar course for Type 2s called DESMOND but I'm not sure if that is still available or if it has been scrapped. Anyone else know?
