Hi there
I'm a type 1 diabetic and have been for 14 years now. I had an episode a couple of years back following a sickness bug which put my blood sugars out of control and ended up in a bit of a bad way, three days in intensive care...yuck. Obviously keen to avoid this happening again but now have rather a nasty bug which has completely knocked my control again, blood sugar went from 2.4 to 24.2 in the space of a few hours this morning and honestly can't work out how it happened. Anyways, I checked for ketones and got a reading of somewhere between 1.5 and 4, it was quite difficult to differentiate on the colour chart. I've tried calling the doctors who have referred me to the diabetic clinic but I am still waiting on a call back and would appreciate any advice anyone can give me on how best to treat this. I don't have much of an appetite so am reluctant to take a huge dose of Novorapid so have taken 10 units of Levemir. Any suggestions please.
