Insulin discontinued...

I've never used premixed insulin and it's a long time since I've injected twice a day!
But if this is the regime that you are currantly on then you need to contact your DSN ASAP so that you can discuss what regime to move to, either another pre-mixed insulin by another manufacturere (very few about if I remember rightly) or perhaps changing over to the basal/bolus regimes..
If you wanted to stay with the same insulin then there is a way around it, as it a premixed of both an intermidate insulin and a quick acting insulin both are avaiable separtely in vials, you would have to draw up from each vial of insulin into one syringe to inject!
But speak to your team, as they aren't always aware who is on what regime/insulin until they've got your medical file in front of them

Thanks for your help. I'm 31, have been Type 1 from 16. I have always been on Human Mixtard 30, I had no idea this wasn't used anymore. I don't understand what the basal/bolus regime is...

Yes, Mixtard 30 was discontinued some time ago. There are other mixed insulin available.
Are you living in the UK Alexa?
I would recommend speaking with your healthcare team at tjhe next opportunity to ask which alternative insulin you should go on to.

Try calling iddt http://www.iddt.org/. They had a campaign to try to prevent its withdrawal and will be able to tell you the advantages and disadvantages of the relative alternatives. And unlike your DSN/dr are not in any way funded by drug companies....

My Son James was on the Mixtard 30 until it was discontinued. Our DSN did tell us about this but I also read it in the Balance Magazine through Diabetes UK. He then went onto Humalog Mix 25 Kwikpen without any ill effects, but now since puberty is on the MDI's basal bolus regime and still learning.
