Insulin dose post covid?

I was diagnosed Type 2 maybe 30 years ago and have progressed though various tablet and insulin regimes to be using Humalog and Humulin I plus metformin 850 x 3 per day. Morning is usually 20 units of Humulin I plus Humalog at 2 units less than my breakfast blood glucose i.e. if bg is 8, I take 6 Humalog. Lunch time is usually 5 or 6 Humalog. Pre evening meal maybe 15 or 20 Humalog depending on meal followed by c. 40 Humulin I pre bedtime.
Generally speaking my GP (diabetes GP) is happy with my Hba1c.
But covid struck (OK now) and my wake up glucose level is now about 15, sometimes more and I have difficulty getting it lower despite upping insulin doses by 5 or 6 units. Daytime readings are also higher than usual ... in the 15 range.

Should I just increase insulin dose even more?
I should add that I am not getting as much exercise as before because of the cold weather.

All advice listened to ....
Cheers, Phil

Welcome to the forums. Generally speaking being ill, as well as for awhile before and after, raises blood sugar, the amount varies. Have you asked your doctor about upping your insulin?

Your medical team should supply you with "sick day rules" for insulin dosing when you are ill.... Yes, many people find they need more insulin then.
