mean people, corrupt politicians, poverty, happy pharmaceutical ads;
How do you know what the right insulin dose is for you?

How do you know what the right insulin dose is for you?
that is a discussion that takes place between the patient and their health care team.and it is a starting point.
by using blood sugar tests at key points in the day and night doses will be titrated to provide a safe range of blood sugar values

What type of insulin are you on? I know that my doses are correct when my blood sugars fall into the target range set by my diabetes team.

Depends on the type of insulin.
If slow acting, basal, the correct dose maintains your blood sugar at the same level in the absence of food, exercise, stress
If you are asking about fast acting bolus, the correct dose returns your blood sugars to the required level in 4 hours if your basal is correct

Thank you himtoo, ert, and inResponse: kind of you to give me good information. I am on humulin, but I started quite low about 4 yrs ago (10ish?) and I find I have to increase it now gradually. My GP at pre-pandemic times tried to help me but that diabetology was not her specialty. I am gaging by personal feedback, e.g. if I feel like I am slowly slipping into a semi-coma I raise the units, as recommended in the package instructions, and that does work. Problem is that getting an equilibrium with other meds and activity or lack of it, makes it difficult to stay in the right range. Thank you all for your suggestions. Hugz

p.s.: on another issue on my laundry woe list:

NEUROPATHY or something else?

I have had daily pain on top of my thigh, haunch, and shooting down my leg - only right leg; I know it sounds like diabetic neuropathy and everyone jumps at the most obvious: but, it happened after a traumatic fall (6 mos. ago) and knee cleared on-xay for fracture, it has come after about 2 months post fall. And I am considering the possible alternatives:
-entraped nerve
-rickets
-li w/d from the bone
-Vitamin D deficiency, supplied by my new drs. now
-undetected fracture on the x-ray
-crash trauma, or muscle/nerve injury
-twisted muscle
The progression to less pain (which has been daily and postural) is agonizingly slow, but does improve every day;
Clinic dr. though "nerve" and maybe even surgery (which is out of the medical capacity range now and would require pre dx x-ray). Curious that there is an improvement though, ever so slowly;

Thank you for reading.
