Insulin - GP appointment

When I last had my bloods taken etc at my GP he said he would give me three months to see if I could get them to come down with my medication as he cannot give me any more medication he said I would need to go on Insulin if they do not come down. I watched what I was eating etc and they have still not come down. I am just about to low carb and see if this helps, the thing is I got letter in today stating my three months is up and I have appointment on 7th June with results on 14th June. I am tempted not to attend this appointment......as I know even if the low carbing helps it will not show over the last three months. Can I refuse to go on Insulin or would that be silly. I go on holiday on 4th July and would certainly not want to start it before I go anyway! I am not too keen on my nurses attitude to my diabeties this is who I attend before GP he is usually a bit more understanding etc. She says 'It will just be a matter of time before you take a stroke or heart attack if you dont get Insulin' ! Sometimes I feel it is okay for these people to say things like that but dont help you to help yourself. Sorry for moan just really trying to get myself sorted out. :?

You don't have o do anything you don't feel is righ for you. The Nurse in my pracice waned o pu me on insukin 3 years ago.
I refused and my levels have dropped at every HBA1C since.
I was no convinced i was the bes thing for me and not convinced by her arguments, In my case my previous GP had old me insulin would not b e what h ewould recommend. You should give them the oppoerunity to explain why this is the onluy opion.

If you have a good reason for waning o ry something else like low carbing they have o accept it. Sometimes low carbing can have an immediate effect. You may be surprised. If you think it all through and are definite about your aims they can't really argue. he nurse probably will be insist on discussing i wih the doctor.
No, I wouldn't want o do i shorly before a holiday either. certainly put off your appointment if you can. Do you test? if you can show them improved results on your home ttests they can hardly argue.

Thank you re the above, it is probably the way I feel. I want to try what I can to get my levels down before resorting to Insulin. My GP is always willing to listen to patients and will agree/disagree it is the nurse that has a problem but at the end of the day it is him who prescibes and me who decides. I have a couple of weeks yet before my appointment and start serious low carb tomorrow and so will see how things go and might delay my appointment a bit. I do test, although I have not being doing it quite so much recently as did not want to see the high readings. I will keep a diary of what I am eating and what my readings are as of tomorrow so that I can prove to GP if they are going down and he might give me a bit longer to try it. Heres hoping the low carb works because dont know what else to do if it does not ! Thanks again for you reply :)

A Gp that keeps to his word is just brilliant
However if you don't want to use insulin, he CAN'T make you.
If you want to try low carbing, all you need to know is on this forum somewhere. It's extremely rare for it not to work. If you only have a shortish time to convince your GP that LC is working for you;keep a written record of your tests and take it to him.[or possibly her! :D ]
Good luck
