after about 10 yr of type 2, and various pills my sugar levesl have now been consistantly high so i have til wed to decide on insulin or byetta as next step. as i'm over wieght - again something that this year i can't shift (partly cos of foot problems and family crisis limiting physical activity) I'm tempted to go with byetta, understanding the problems sidee effect of sickness. any thoughts???

Byetta might be worth a try if you can tolerate it; if not Victoza could do the same job; some people tolerate one better than the other, but both do essentially the same thing. I was put on Byetta first, then switched to Victoza when side effects were too extreme. I'm tolerating the Victoza better (and there is the plus that its only one injection a day instead of two, and that jab doesn't have to be linked to meal times). Good weight loss and reduction in HbA1C. No calculations to do either, which you'd have to do going on insulin. I'd try the Byetta or Victoza in preference to the Insulin, but everyone's different.

Hi. I'd try the Byetta or Victoza. Insulin is not the best solution if you are overweight with insulin resistance as you will be adding insulin when you probably already have too much. Byetta and Victoza are targeted as those needing to reduce weight and blood sugar. BTW note that diet is the first priority rather than exercise to reduce weight and blood sugar. Exercise is always good but do focus on reducing the carbs and portion sizes.
