Insulin in type two diabetes

Welcome @stewpot65 :)

Do you count carbs and adjust your pre-meal insulin accordingly? That can help avoid hypos.

If you're getting hypos on a daily basis, it would be best to have a word with your nurse to see if your insulin needs adjusting.

You're having too many hypos at 2 per day. I agree with @azure that you need to have a discussion with your doc or nurse about the dosage you're on. It may be your basal dosage is a bit too high for you... then also you may be using too much bolus with your meals as well. It's tricky trying to fine tune things. I've not been taught the ins and outs of using insulin... my endo just told me what units to take and left it at that. I believe you can get into the DAFNE course in UK if you need to get advice... but here I'm not able to get on that course as it is strictly only T1's that can attend where I live. But I still don't really know what my carb to insulin ratio actually is and it is a guessing game with me. I find any change to my health at all impacts on my sugars and messes everything up again just when I thought I got it right. I wish you the best. :)

Hi. T2s can't always get onto DAFNE courses in the UK, either, but I did find an online course, run by an NHS trust, which I think is open to anyone to sign up - even from Australia! It's the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre:

I did sign up ages ago, but it's been a while since I've logged in - I used it to get ready before I started on insulin. I've also got an ebook, Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner, which has suggestions for calculating the amount of basal insulin and your carb/insulin ration for bolus insulin, and covers both T1 and T2. Anyone got any more suggestions?
