Insulin Levels

Hi all , long time viewer, first time poster : )


Reading thorough the many threads here, got me wondering about the range of insulin usage levels.

For example I take 3 x 44 units of Novorapid ( topped up at other times where required ) and an evening dose of Levemier x 54 units

These result in an HcA1c of 4.6

How about the rest of you ?

Out of interest, what does your diabetes care team think of your really low hba1c, are they not concerned that it is perhaps too low and you could be having frequent hypos. Also, again being nosey, do you have any hypo awareness symptoms and could you tell me how long you have had type 1 diabetes.

My hba1c last year was 7.1, but since then I have reinvented my diet and have also completed the DAFNE course, so I am hopeful my next hba1c will be around 6. I use the following insulin's and approx doses per meal:

Breakfast 5 units of novorapid

Lunch 6 units of novorapid

Evening meal 8-10 units of novorapid

I also inject 22 units of lantus once a day.

Type 1 for nearly 3 years now, came right out of the blue.

Don't really have a team, see the consultant twice a year, the local nurse once to check feet etc, the eye people once a year and doctor to fight off new problems as they arise, hight blood pressure, high cholesterol, and the latest which looks like it will end up as intermittent claudication (shoot me now : ) )

Very hypo aware hot, perspiration, tingling lips etc come mainly at night although not often, needed glucagon twice (scared the hell out of the wife and me ! )

Hi Alistair,
I take Hypurin Porcine Isophane(long-acting) twice a day 22 units AM & 12 units PM. Before meals I take between 2 & 5 units of Hypurin Porcine Neutral.
Does anyone find the hot weather keeps BG levels lower? I walked a bit today and haven't taken any neutral at all and BGs been below 6 all day; luv it!! :D
